Going back to work after WLS

Recommended Posts

How long after WLS did everyone go back to work? I know some that did after a week and some after 3. We are looking at January or February for mine.

I had almost no pain. I was unhappy on liquids, but once I made purees, cravings ceased.

At work, I was really tired the first week. It didn't affect my performance, but I did go to bed as soon as I got home every day. By the second week, I was pretty energized.

4 weeks it was mandatory by my surgeon to take that amount of time off.

I would have gone stir crazy and been doing things that I definitely shouldn't have been doing. My garage and I would have been best friends and I would have stripping trucks, building engines and doing at least 2 engine swaps. As it is Monday will be 12 weeks and I have this week off. This will be my first real time spent in the garage. I plan to drag a wrecked truck home, get it running and start stripping it, build an engine, custom paint it to match the truck that it is going into, possibly paint the inner fenders, front suspension and core support. I have to resolder the gauge cluster in my dad's car. Diagnose a charging problem with a power chair and get it up for sale. Parent teacher conference. Refinance the house. Shop for thanksgiving. Spend all day Wednesday prepping and Thursday cooking. Sunday of next weekend will be going to the woods to get our Christmas tree. On top of all of that we will have a bunch of family here and have commitments there as well. As you can see I don't slow down for anything and it would be very difficult to have taken 4 weeks off and not hurt myself.

I was out 4 days full time (one of those was for travel/preop) and 5 days part time. I could have gone full time after my second day back but i was enjoying the alone time. :D

I'm still out. Had sleeve on 10/3/16. But I also had my gall bladder removed, so it was mandatory 4 weeks. But I have the time, so I'm taking 8 weeks. No need to rush back and I've gotten tons of stuff done around the house.

Living life like it's golden! A change is coming!!!!

3 weeks. Don't really remember the first week. I was quite uncomfortable and exhausted easily.

Big change the second week. Had more energy, less pain, but I was still napping a lot. Had my first follow-up appointment the following Tuesday. I could have gone back to work the next day, but frankly I didn't want to. My job involves long days, I have good benefits, and I wasn't in a rush. I still felt a little weak and tired a lot. I went back the following week. The first few days were a struggle, but I slid back into the old routine/rut quickly.

If you can take your time, take your time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
