Recommended Posts

Anyone having surgery in Tijuana in January 2017? Mine is scheduled at Hospital CER on 01/11/2017 with Dr. Fernando Garcia. Nervous and excited! Anyone getting sleeved around that time frame? Any personal experiences with Dr. Garcia and/or CER? Any info is appreciated!

I had surgery with Dr E Ortiz at Mi Doctor in Tijuana, on Oct 27.

The recovery process was simple and straightforward for me. I didn't find there was any pain, beyond some tenderness which I expected.

I have transitioned seamlessly through the food stages from Clear Liquids to full liquids to purées onto soft foods without ever getting sick. I followed his post op plan religiously since I was aware that he is very far away shoud I develop any leaks or complications.

I made a post detailing every minute of my trip to Tijuana in the Mexico self pay forum. I realize the process is different for every doctor and hospital, but it might offer some information about the recovery and surgery process.

I read it! I think it's one of the greatest posts I have read. If you scroll down you will see I made some comment. I loved that you have been so candid and explained how it went. Like you, I will be far away and will follow instructions to a T. I had been eating very clean (until a few months ago when I started mourning foods--sad excuse). I had been eating very well for the past few years, gone from 332 to 248 on my own. Then in September when this started becoming an ordeal (due to the process---the $$ I was paying out of pocket, and getting nowhere). I have been teeter tottering to 269-270 and back down, the holidays was an excuse to eat sweet potato casserole daily. Now that I am basically 5 weeks to go, I am pulling in the reins. I will just get on track, and follow the pre-op diet with no problem. I have been adding the gym days back to.

Thank you again for your posts.

Most amazing medical experience. Clean doesn't describe CER. Looks like you can eat off the floors. The rooms feel very Zen or spa like. You will never meet such a friendly, caring medical staff. When was the last time your Dr gave an endearing hug and acted as if they cared? Best medical experience of my life. Hotel is LOVELY too, you feel like you are on a real vacation. Feel free to message anything you would like to know. I just got home last night from Tijuana.

Hi! Does CER have private patient rooms & bathrooms? I'm headed there for surgery in a few weeks (no date set, coordinator on vacation) so just curious, thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
