whitneyisfab 26 Posted November 18, 2016 Hi guys! I'm new here so I'm sorry if this is the wrong board or whatever, but I have a question. My insurance is BCBSFL and while researching, I learned that BCBS does not cover bariatric surgery in Florida. But I do have a BMI in excess of 40, and I was wondering if there was something I could do like submit a form or something that would get them to cover it? Has anyone had any luck or experience with this? Thanks in advance.
Treadmillwalker 486 Posted November 18, 2016 I have BCBS Anthem through my employer. I emailed them and asked if it was covered and the requirements. I received back the detailed information and worked with my surgeon's office. The surgeon's team can be helpful with finding this out too. Had lapband surgery 10/12/
slscott78 2 Posted November 19, 2016 I have the same insurance and they do cover it. You just have to have co morbidities as well as excess BMI. Hope I explained that correctly. Then I had to do the 6 month supervised weight loss. I got approved with no issues Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App
