bellamarie 4 Posted November 17, 2016 Hello there!! I had my surgery October 17th and I have my first month post op visit. I told my surgeon I am very depressed and I have insomnia. I didn't have this prior to surgery and I am also hungry. He told me 95% of patients have the hunger hormone gone and I am part of the 5%. Does anyone know if the surgeon messed something up? I wish I wasn't hungry all the time and that's probably why I am so depressed and don't want to get out of bed. I am down 21 lbs. I was 217lbs surgery date and I am now 196lbs Any thoughts? Hammer_Down 631 Posted November 17, 2016 The depression is probably not caused by feeling hunger, since depression is defined as sadness, lethargy and loss of will that has no discernible cause. If it were as simple as stimuli, the 21 lbs you've lost in the past few weeks should have you elated and ecstatic! I had a sleeve, not a bypass but my hunger didn't disappear overnight. The liquids phases were especially tough as I was missing the satiety and chewing from eating proper foods. If you're feeling depressed, I would recommend talking to a mental health care professional about finding a therapist. No amount of "cheer up!" Is going to help with depression. bellamarie 4 Posted November 17, 2016 Thank you so much, I saw a therapist yesterday for the first time. I agree nothing was making me feel better. I am just concerned about me being in the 5 % that feels hunger, I'm afraid my surgeon messed something up. limesqueeze23 43 Posted November 19, 2016 I don't think he has messed anything up, everyone's bodies are different. It's hard to predict how your body will react to the trauma of surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Travelher 915 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) Are you on a ppi? I experienced hunger too after surgery but also had wicked acid reflux at night. My doctor put me on a ppi and boom hunger gone, It was stomach acid casing that upset stomach hungry feeling. Edited November 19, 2016 by Travelher
