Okay so I have had my locks for 7 years and I am thinking about cutting them off. Do you think if I cut them it will help with the hair lost because they are so heavy and maybe won’t lose as much just wondering if it would help? No surgery date but hopefully Dec

It will help in that Hair loss is less noticeable with short hair, but it won't actually reduce the amount of hair you lose, at least not in any significant way.

hair follicles are put into a sleeping state during surgery and the hair falls out about three or four months later. Cutting your hair now won't change that. You can make that decision when you see how much fall out you experience. It could be none or a lot.

I think keeping the locs would actually protect your hair. It's a protective style and it means less daily manipulation. A couple of people I know that have had locs post surgery still have them. They might thin out a bit, you might lose a couple, but not all of your hair falls out.

Just wait and see what happens.

Lots aren't going to protect you in this sense. The hair falls out from the root, not from breakage.

You might not lose any hair, just wait and see.

I'm two months post op from the sleeve and I made the decision to cut off about 8 inches of hair just because i wanted a change. Everything else was different, loosing weight, changing my eating habits, i wanted to do something else. I love my new hair. If your hair falls out or not, I think it's a good idea. Definietly helped me see myself as a different person then I was 4 months ago.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
