Food Forever Gone

Probably. No one can say for sure since recovery is such an individual thing.

Personally I have almost no physical intolerances for types of foods, but have learned the hard way that I cannot have even a "bite or two" of my most loved foods, as for me that leads to a downward spiral in my eating patterns and an upward spiral in my weight. So those bites or tastes or splurges or whatever you want to call them are off the table for me except on extremely rare occasions. But do they make me physically ill? Nope.

Chances are very good that you will! I can tolerate everything I used to eat with the exception of a few things; soft bread, Pasta, rice, ice cream and cream based Soups.

When I eat those foods (most of which used to be favorites) they make me feel so YUCKY, I no longer want them. It's hard to describe the aversion to a food that was once a favorite when you've not experienced it. It's actually quite freeing.

I'm only about 5 months post-op, but so far my experience has been a lot like @@LipstickLady ...a spoonful of anything too sugary doesn't agree with me at all. I used to love flan and creme brulee...now one small bite of creme brulee made me very nauseated and miserable. I haven't tried bread at all because 2 pieces of penne Pasta sent me to the bathroom, so lesson learned there.

I don't want those things anymore, so my pre-surgery favorites aren't aligning with what I'm interested in post-op. I want vegetables and fruit, mostly, but I'm so limited on space that they only get marginal play. It's all about the Protein now and I can tell physically when I'm not doing well with Protein. I don't really miss anything.

I think you will. Like the others, I can pretty much eat anything, and it doesn't give me any ill effects. I haven't tried Cookies, cake... Etc. but it's because I never really liked those types of things to begin with... And before, it would be my last resort if nothing else was around, but I'm going to guess it would make me feel icky too. Something about going through a life changing surgery, really makes me think before acting on any urges.

I'm 5 weeks postop and currently have zero tolerance for anything that is high in carbs or sugar. It makes me feel terrible. I drank a glass of lemonade and thought I was going to die. I stick to Protein and veggies and that's about all I can eat.

I had a teaspoon of tiramasu last week. My only taste of a sweet since early July. I was pleased that I put that spoon down, I didn't slide or spiral. I enjoyed it and didn't feel ill.

What kind of pre op education did you get that you would even have to ask this question? I'm not asking this to be nasty I am just concerned about a Dr who would perform major surgery on you without giving you this very basic information.

As for the question, I hope that your surgeon's staff provided you with a post op diet and comprehensive instructions. Unless your favorite foods paper on the "allowed" list you won't be having them for the next 912 weeks at east, longer if you. are slow at tolerating solid food.

At some point (soon) you will be able to eat everything you ate before, except maybe carbonated beverages, though, if you intend to keep the weight off you will still not be drinking liquids with your meals or for 1/2 hour after you eat.

WLS is a TOOL, it's not magic and you (like everyone else hee) will only succeed if you work at it.

There is absolutely nothing I can't eat and nothing I don't eat. But this wasn't always true. What you feel like and can eat the first month is nothing like what it will be like 6 months out and again nothing like it will be like 1 year out, or 5 years out......

        Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...
