I heard somewhere that when you have gastric bypass you should always have extra pants/ undies with you. Would you agree with this statement? Or if you stay away from sugar are you ok?

It is called Dumping Syndrome. I believe it is food related. You may want to research. Sorry, I don't remember the details and I would hate to tell you something incorrectly.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

There is a saying "Never trust a fart." After RNY gastric bypass surgery, I fart perhaps twice as much post surgery as pre-surgery. This is especially bad in the beginning. For the first few weeks after surgery, this was sometimes more than just a fart. Therefore it is probably not a bad idea to have an extra change of underwear, just in case. But this particular phase does not last long and then your farts turn back into farts.

I'm 7 weeks post op RNY and haven't had any kind of "bathroom" issues. I definitely avoid sugar though because I'm afraid of dumping syndrome, which I haven't experienced either. As far as I know dumping is more like intense flu/fever symptoms than a bathroom emergency.

I'm 4 weeks out from RNY and this is not an issue for me. Actually first I've heard of it. But I don't eat sugar and very little carbs.

I would say this is fiction. I have not had any "close calls" myself. I am only 1 month post op but I still haven't had any issues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
