I officially hate vitamins!

Recommended Posts

I need help finding Multivitamins and Calcium supplements that I can swallow easily. Post-op I was taking chewables for both, which became sickening after a while. I was happy to be cleared for Vitamins I can swallow. The problem is, I have to take three Multivitamins or three calciums at a time to get the right dosage. It is difficult ingesting three pills at a time with a small stomach. I obviously cannot take them right after eating since I have to wait the mandatory 45 minutes after eating in order to drink something. I started taking the multivitamins with my morning Protein shake so I can swallow them as I go along. They do sometimes make me nauseous. Is anyone taking a multi or a Calcium that has everything in it that we sleevers need without having to take 3 at a time?

The Calcium is decided into three doses because you can only absorb about 500 mg at a time. Take your D3 (I use liquid) with calcium because it doesn't absorb otherwise.

Have you tried the Patches from PatchMD?

I only take Calcium orally, and only because I am not sure calcium will absorb thru the skin like other do,

Taking a small swallow of Water in order to get a pill down after your meal should not hurt anything.

PatchMD is a life saver for me! Hate taking anything, the doctor told me to try them. I have been on them for a year now and my blood work is perfect.

I am over 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass surgery. Because of this type of surgery, I take many more Vitamins than a patient that has undergone sleeve surgery.

After surgery I found that I could no longer swallow large pills. This made taking Vitamins a difficult challenge. This condition lasted about 2 months and then I was able to swallow again.

Vitamins should not all be taken at once. They need to be spaced out throughout the day otherwise they are not absorbed properly. There should also be a time separation of at least 2 hours between Iron supplements (as found in multivitamins) and Calcium supplements. They should not be taken together. I do not swallow all my vitamins at once. I do not fill my mouth with 3 vitamins and then drink Water. I do these one at a time.

In my case because I have so many to take, I use the following approach. I place all my calciums in a small glass bowl each morning. These I take throughout the day a couple hours apart. All the other vitamins I divide into two weekly pill containers. One for the early morning and one for the late evening just before bedtime. Since these are weekly containers (14 small compartments), the fill covers a two week period for each container.

Have you tried the Viactiv Calcium. It is a chewable and it looks and tastes like a caramel.

I personally have always taken Bariatric Vitamins, I tried the chewables even Flintstones YUK YUK!!! I buy Celebrate Capsules for $15.00 for 90 capsules. I buy 4 at a time so I don't have to pay S/H. I was told that you can open them and add them to food if you can't swallow them. I was told from the beginning that I needed to take a Bariatric Vit. I know that Dr.'s don't always agree. But I figured I would rather be safe than sorry. Thats just me tho.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
