HA! WE are HARDCORE! "normal" people might settle for January to start a major life change, but not us....nope! The cool kids start in December. ;)

I am doing this now because my work get slow around December. And I'm afraid my husband is going to need surgery soon. So, if I don't do this now it's going to be harder to schedule. And honestly, WHEN is a good time to start this? I bet you could find any reason to put it off, right?

I'm nervous and excited! I can't wait for 12/22 to get here. I'm a little nervous about recovery but excited about having some extra help becoming healthy. I'm HW 268 and CW 222 at only 5'2".

I finished all of my pre-op testing yesterday!! I, too, am looking forward to Thanksgiving as kind of the last hurrah! I will start the liquid diet December 1st, and surgery will be the 14th! I know I will be nervous the closer it gets, but right now, I am just excited! Yes, Christmas will be a little different this year, but that is okay!

I am getting excited and then begin to worry to much. At times I tell myself I can do this without the surgery but...NOT! I loose then gain, story of my life. I am at an age that being heavy puts my life at danger from many other diseases. I am glad I get to do Thanksgiving. My daughter leaves for Japan just after Christmas so this allows me to Celebrate one last time the old way. The next time I see her I will have had time to work on the new me.

I am interested in going on this journey with everyone in this group. It'll be nice to have the support, the woes me's to yippys!

Let the fun begin!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
