Stalls immediately after surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm having a tough time of things. I lost 10lbs in my 1st week then I hit a stall week two. Which I was understanding about. I'm now in week 3 and things still aren't moving. I know stalls are common but I haven't heard of people getting them this early and for this long. I have been getting my Water, protien and even exercises in. My calories tend to be on the low side but if I get 200 or 600 doesn't seem to make a difference. I know it's my body adjusting but I could really use some reassurance.

Stalls can happen any time. You should count yourself lucky you actually lost any weight instead of gaining the first week after surgery - many folks experience weight gain from the fluids and meds they use during surgery and may not see an actual loss until 2-3 weeks out.

And there is the often discussed three week stall - which can happen at week 2 or week 4 or 5... ;)

Your body will not work exactly the same as someone else's body. But just know that you will start losing again unless you go nuts and start eating bad for you foods or not following your overall diet/exercise plan.

Your job is to keep track of your food/liquid intake and make sure you're getting your Protein, Water and other nutrients and slowly adding in exercise over the next year. You need to throw out your old way of eating and the foods you used to eat and relearn healthy eating habits and foods and what is a good mix of Proteins, fats and carbs. If you do all of this, your body will do what it needs to do to lose that weight.

So deep breath, keep doing all the right things, and trust your body to do it's thing.

Absolutely what the above posters said..."Just keep doing what you are supposed to be doing!" Keep getting in your Protein and fluids and the weight WILL start to fall off. It has to. My longest stall was a little over 3 weeks and I attribute it all to stress. We were moving into our new house and I was hardly eating at all. I was only getting maybe 300-400 calories a day and I could NOT understand why I wasnt losing weight. Sure enough, once the furniture was moved in, and all the boxes delivered (stress was relieved) the weight literally began to melt off again! Just hang in there! It will happen!

Are you cleared for exercise? I am not cleared until 6 weeks and then I have to adjust my Protein and Water to compensate for the exercise. I'd check with surgeon because while the logic is that exercise causes weight loss, in super calorie restriction that isn't always the case.

It's nice to know I'm not alone. 2weeks with no movement just when I started is just rough. When did you start getting movement on the scale again?

Thanks hon. I did gain from surgery but I did lose that weight. I know of the 3rd week stall but I didn't know it could hit this early and last this long.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
