mmy 62 Posted November 15, 2016 Ok prior to surgery I used to carry most of my fat around the belly area (which I know is bad) now that I lost all of my excess weight and reached my target weight and my current BMI is 23 I still carry most of my weight round the belly area (smaller belly but still most fat around the belly area) even though I exercise regularly, eat healthy and maintain an active life style.. anyone with the same problem or knows what to do about it??! (Btw it's not excess skin that I have, it's fat, I started with a not so high BMI so I am lucky not to have the excess skin problem) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

j16 166 Posted November 15, 2016 I am noticing that I am losing weight disproportionately. My stomach was big before surgery but seemed proportionate. Now it is really bothering me because it seems like I should have a flat belly at my current weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
rolosmom7 740 Posted November 16, 2016 I think it might just be how our mamas made us. I've lost 50 pounds and am down 1 jean size (and they're tight). I don't think my butt and hips are going anywhere anytime soon. Different people just carry it differently.
Tara2000 10 Posted November 16, 2016 I am in same situation as you, I started with not so high BMI and before surgery I was size 14-15 no one thought That I even need a bypass! In my opinion and also others I was lucky that I had a flat stomach! I lost total of 50 pounds from my hip and thighs and arms! Now at size 10 I feel I still have to lose on my thighs but my belly is big as hell! Is not skin its just a big tummy! Now who ever sees my belly asks if I've gained weight recently?!!! That is sad! erp 2,016 Posted November 16, 2016 Based on several of the responses and the initial poster, two things jump out at me: it doesn't sound like many of you are lean enough to have a flat stomach, e.g. j19 posted still needing to lose 50 pounds on another thread yesterday; people 50 pounds overweight don't have flat stomachs. Similarly, a 23 BMI does not mean someone is lean, hence the term "skinny fat". More importantly, body recomposition takes time. If you aren't at least 12-18 months out, then your body is still changing. The saying that "abs are made in the kitchen" is accurate. Stay consistent with your diet- lean Protein and veggies, exercise regularly and you can lean out.
RJC5197 282 Posted November 16, 2016 I was told years ago that when we make fat cells we never lose them. They grow with weight gain, and shrink with loss, but still there. If we have enough from being very heavy, we need to get out fat % down to lowest for our best, but if we have a lot, will never be stealth like those that never got heavy. This is why liposuction is used to remove the cells.

Redmaxx 740 Posted November 22, 2016 This is why liposuction is used to remove the cells. I have heard that liposuction actually hurts to have it done.
