High sodium in power aid zero.

Been a great five plus months. Started at 317 and now down to 220.

I drink a lot of Power Aid Zero, probably 4 or 5 of the 32 oz. drinks a day. I gave up all carbonated drinks.

I am feeling nervous/figity of an evening and believe I am consuming to much sodium.

I used to enjoy the Walmart zero calorie zero sodium Clear American drinks but they are carbonated.

Your thoughts on carbonation after Sleeve?

Carbonation is painful for me. I don't have high blood pressure and don't eat many foods that are high sodium, so I don't worry about occasional foods with lots of sodium.

If you are worried about consuming too much sodium, are you tracking your intake on myfitnesspal or a similar food intake tracker? That might give you a better picture of whether you have an issue to be concerned with.

You might look into G2 -- it has lower sodium than Powerade Zero and is also noncarbonated. Or just drink water!

I can't drink plain Water so I have been mixing Powerade Zero 50/50 with water. On the orange and lemon-lime flavors I add a crystal light lemonade package like you are supposed to mix with 16oz of water. I've been quite happy doing it this way.

I think carbonated drinks are just trouble, wls or not. They almost always contain sodium, sugar, etc. I use Ener-C or Emergen-C Vitamin packets in my Water and can use as little or as much as I need to flavour it for my preferences. That way I drink more Water and get electrolytes. Easy to have on hand, and dump into bottled water on the go. I make iced cubes with them to keep my water cold. So convenient!

Thanks for all the replies. The idea of diluting the Power Aid zero with Water and adding Crystal Light is on my list. Also, looking at ordering the Energyn C to have on hand.

I am going to lay off the Power Aid for awhile and drink Water and Walmart Clear American carbonated water. I am shaking the bottle several times and taking the lid off which removes most of the carbonation and letting set and pouring over ice.

I have found no research proof that carbonation in moderation (or even more) will stretch the sleeve. In fact several on line doctors say carbonation is in the same category as drinking from a straw, a myth. Physically stretching the sleeve is difficult, maybe impossible. We should not confuse the stomach healing and swelling going down with the sleeve enlarging. Also, your new stomach becomes much more efficient at beginning the digestive process and moving food to the small intestine which simply means you will not feel full as long as you used to. All normal and has nothing to do with the sleeve stretching. Learning to eat right and watching calories is a life goal.

Now having said this, obviously plain water (and maybe adding some crystal light or Energyn C) is better for you.

Carbonation still hurts for me three years out.

Try crystal light. The thing with electrolyte drinks like Gatorade and Powerade is sodium IS an electrolyte so they will always have quite a bit of sodium, it's why they exist. As a runner I need that sodium during or after a marathon. If someone is dehydrated they need sodium. Those drinks have a purpose and if you're using them just because you don't like the taste of Water... well try something else instead

Btw yes I'm with you, research shows carbonation doesn't stretch anything. It's air for goodness sake.

My surgeon recommends using the sugar free Syrup from the soda stream machines and just add still Water or like you say, let the bubbles out and the fizz die before drinking.

I drink flavored lightly carbonated Water with no problems at this point, but everyone is different. I tried a Coke Zero the other day, from a fountain dispenser because I was craving a soda. First, it hurt like the dickens. Second, it tasted nasty. I think highly carbonated stuff will continue to be out for a while.

I have a Soda Stream, and am going to try it next time I just really want a soda, because you can control the amount of carbonation. Also their diet soda syrups use sucralose which is better for me because aspartame triggers Migraines for me.

Completely forgot what I was going to comment about sodium. :)

Most people can handle sodium in any amount with no problem. There are people for whom it will drive up their blood pressure, and another smaller group where the sodium doesn't get excreted right and their levels go up and cause all sorts of problems. My sodium has been slightly low since the surgery, but not enough to worry. I think it's because I'm not eating as much sodium in prepared foods as I used to.

Just checked on Emergyn (sp ) C and it has both sodium and calories (35 ca. ).

I'm sticking with reducing my Power Aid Zero and Walmart Clear Water (carbonation removed or at least reduced).

Thanks again and Btw I already feel better having reduced by a bunch my salt over the last two days.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
