Gurgle and burp after every sip

Recommended Posts

So I had my sleeve done on November 2nd, and I'm having a really hard time drinking anything because every sip I take my stomach gurgles and I have to burp after which also adds to my nausea. (Nausea meds aren't helping) Anyone else have this problem? Also, taking my chewable Vitamins makes me super sick to my stomach. Luckily I haven't vomited, but I'm not getting enough liquids and Protein in. Is this normal?

I had a similar experience with my sleeve. I had my sleeve done on 4/25/16. Your body is relearning how to process food/liquid. It takes some people longer than others for the nausea to go away after surgery. Regarding the gurgling, that will probably stay forever. My ex had his surgery almost 5 years ago and he still has a loud tummy after he eats. It's a good thing! It means things are moving around.

Don't get discouraged! If the meds aren't helping with the nausea, speak to your doctor about it. They may have some alternatives that could help.

Thank you. It makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one with these symptoms. It's just difficult because I've always loved drinking Water, and now it's so challenging. Thank you for your response!

Post op there is the new "baby stomach" to care for.

Like babies, it can't handle too much if any adult type drink, food is consumed, and keeps gurgling and belching and protests often.

Stomach takes 6 months to heal completely.

I gurgled and belched in the early post op phases. Most of it has now gone away. I had my op early March 2016.

I remember getting severely dehydrated in my 2nd week, and that was scary.

I bought electrolyte drink then, Hydralyte, and to this day, most of it is still sitting in my fridge. This was a big lesson for me to keep my fluids up.

With Water, it was hard for me to sip or drink plain, so I started adding bit of apple juice or lemonade to it. This helped me.

I also drank lot of brewed black tea then. Now I switched to green tea.

Now, 8 months post op, I can guzzle 500ml in one go, no problems.

My gurgling, most of it has gone away.

I experience bit of gurgling and/or belching if I forget to eat, get too hungry, and consequently occasionally eat too fast.

It does get better with time!

I had chewable BN Multi for the first 3 months.

Then I went back to my regular Multivitamin, and it did make me nauseous many times. I was taking them After food.< /p>

I tried cutting them in half, and taking them After food, twice daily. This works for me, no more nausea.

As others said, please talk with your surgeon about any issues that you are having now and later.

Good Luck.

I have the same exact problem! and boy is it a pain in the ass. Its so hard to get in the fluids due to the burps. I have found that when drinking poweraid zero its a bitt better than with the shakes or Water.< /p>

If I find a solution I'll let ya know. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
