Laying The Groundwork

Recommended Posts

Had my second meeting with the nutritionist yesterday. I've lost 12 pounds since our first meeting. Yay me.

I've decided not to share that I am having WLS to anyone but my close family.

I'm laying the groundwork now to prep my coworkers for the coming weight loss. They see me drinking my Protein shakes. They see me reading The Beck Diet Solution on my breaks. I'm vocal when I lose a pound.

Anyone else do this? Trying to keep flapping gums to a minimum. Hoping to have surgery in the spring and hoping to take off 50 pounds by that time.

I couldn't like this post more!!!!

I started my journey at 397 pounds in March, and I lost 99 pounds during my six-month, insurance-required diet program. It was the BEST thing I ever did for myself, and I think that it is AWESOME that you are taking that same path. There are so many benefits (health-wise and otherwise). And think how great it will be when the 3 week stall hits (and it will hit) and you will have lost 60 or 70 pounds by then rather than just 10 or 20 pounds if you waited on the surgery to begin. The mental save of that piece alone is a big reward. (I would never have handled my 3 week stall as well as I did if I had lost 20 pounds at that point rather than 120 pounds....)

Congratulations. Good for you!!

I am three months into my 6 months waiting period with some ups and downs. I have not told anyone or intended to. I am trying to figured out how to get back to work after surgery with only 4-5 days off. I am not sure why I don't talk about it, maybe I am embarrassed or I don't want to hear everyone's opinion.

I am almost to the point of setting my date and had my physic eval yesterday. The dr told me that I have to get counseling for my anxiety and he also was concerned that I had an eating disorder 30 years ago. He said that many people develop eating disorders and is can be serious. I don't know if that means I have to have counseling for six months. I was upset. Of course I'm anxious, I want to get this over with and move on. Anyone have this problem?? Thanks,

I'm post-op 10/26. I lost 34lbs pre surgery and 15 post.

I have a different take on the communication aspect. I told everybody and I was grateful that I did. I have gotten so much support both pre and post surgery and I feel like all that would have happened if I hadn't been vocal was other people's speculation. I'd rather control my own narrative. I even blog about my experiences and have since 2011. Www.lifeinsidetheblubbersarcophagus.blogspot.com.

Congrats on your pre-op victory! It's your journey, make it your own!

I was the same way. I had surgery on Wednesday started working from home Friday, and was back in the office Monday. It's possible if it's what you really want.

I did that with my ex husband who is a close friend still. I keep telling him about every pound lost! I know he would never be supportive of surgery because he made fun of a friend of ours who did it. I don't expect he will ever figure it out cuz he's clueless!

I'm 8day post op preshake weight 245 pre surgery w 227 cw 220 and am the same way, I told no one except my husband and one best friend. I didn't even tell my kids I just told them that I had to have some female surgery. I only took a week off so I'll be back to work Monday. During my presurgery shake. I just told everyone that I was working with the nutritionist and supplementing meals during the day with shakes. We used to go out for lunch a lot I told them that I was on a financial diet and that I was no longer going out. So far I'm feeling pretty good first three days were rough with bloating but I've already had several bowel movements my biggest concern is eating habits right now I kind of just winging it drinking as much Water as I can and sipping on shakes I have had some cottage cheese already needed to feel that chew. I need to start working on weighing food and logging it so I know how many Protein and calories I truly am getting.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
