The last 25 pounds are killing me smalls! I will be a year out from my gastric bypass on December 9th. Hw 315 Sw 302 Cw 165. My Doctor wants me to get down to 140, so I'm on the last stretch, but it's HARD NOW!! I can eat more, usually getting to 1200 calories, and I have a three pound drop/gain. Sometimes I'm 164, sometimes I'm 167, but most days I'm 165. It's been a month like this. I lost 6 pounds a month ago. Then this little bouncing game for the last four weeks. And getting that last six pounds off was hard. What I'd like to know is, what are some tips and tricks that could help me get this last 25 pounds off, from other gastric bypass patients. People who have succeeded and met their goal, but struggled at the end, what did you do? Exercise of course. That's a given. Stick to the eating plan. Yes. Pump the Water. Check. But what else? I'd love to hear any tips you've got!q

The last 20lbs drove me absolutely ape Sh%#! I lost 100lbs in 9 months and then it took another 9 months to lose the last 52. The last 20 took 6 of those 9 months for me to lose but i got there.

I was super diligent mostly because i was recouperating from multiple surgeries that year so i literally had to lose my weight by diet alone.

I learned that if i ate 900 high Protein calories or less, i lost weight consistently. If i stuck around 1000 to 1100 I would stall. If i went over 1100 i would gain. That said, keep in mind i was seriously limited having had 2 spinal surgeries so i am not suggesting lowering your calories to 900 or less.

I am suggesting that you figure out where your sweet spot is where you lose weight consistently. Once you figure that out, things will start to move again. Can you do more dense Protein and cut out some additional carbs? The protein keeps you fuller longer.

I also did not drink or eat much if any junk during that period of time. Not sure if you are trying any of that stuff but thought i would just ask the question.

What does your exercise look like? This becomes important the closer you get to goal and certainly when you are in maintenance.

I think I'm going to try 900 calories of dense Protein and see if that will work for me. My exercise is just ok. I walk/jog a couple times a week. I try to walk to work. I could be doing more. I do work 40+ hours a week on my feet in a restaurant. I know that isn't exercise, but I'm sure it helps. I have tried some treats recently. But I noticed that eating a treat is like insta gain, so I stay away from them mostly. I've been eating a lot of veggies, salads, squash. So of course I eat more than when I do majority Protein. I'm grateful for your response and I'm going to adjust my calories and diet.

Wondering what your restriction is like now?

I'm 7.5 months out and and am still restricted at 1/2 -MAYBE 2/3 a cup of food. I definitely can only tolerate 1/2 c if it is dense Protein but can finish an entire 5 oz of Greek yogurt if I wanted to. I try to stop before I finish it to keep at the 4 oz. I'm still around 800 cal a day. My exercise is a bit less these last couple weeks after running a 15k and then spraining my ankle. ( Chipped a little bone in my foot too but oddly that hasn't bothered me much.)

Following this for future reference. I'm 12 ish pounds from goal and yup. It's slowed but I'm not concerned. Knew it would happen.

My restriction has lessened. A string cheese used to fill me up, now it takes 3. A five ounce yogurt used to push my limits. Now I eat a full cup plus an added 1/2 cup of fruit mixed in. 2 ounces of chicken and a 1/2 cup of veggies has increased to 3 ounces of chicken and 3/4 cup veggies. I also get hungrier faster. I eat six times a day and I'm always between 1,000-1,200 calories. I'm going to cut it down for now. Focus on Protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
