Hey guys!

I had my surgery on Monday, 11/7 and am coming up to my first full week post-op. I was up on my feet roughly 8 hours after surgery and had absolutely no difficulty walking 12hrs from surgery.

I have had little difficulty taking down liquids, with the exception of Water for the first few days. Also I was dumb and had some Thai Tom Kha (chicken Coconut Milk Soup) that didnt go well with the stomach but I think that was because of all the oil and fat that probably was in it.

Most of my Protein I seem to be getting from a combo of pudding and Protein powder. I cant stand the Protein shakes already because I was on a pre-OP diet of nothing but them.

So no after surgery complications, no issues with food going down, no pain, and only moderately struggling with head hunger. I feel like from the feedback from friends and family that have likewise gotten the surgery that this is going almost too smooth and just waiting for SOMETHING to happen.

This bother anyone else?

Sounds like you just got lucky to me. My recovery was not terribly difficult either. After day 3 I could basically gulp Water and never had issues getting my fluids or Protein down with the exception of a day here or there. I also went off pain meds on day 3 and I have yet to vomit even once. I think recovery goes well for a lot of people but we just don't hear those stories as much since people are much likelier to post or ask questions if something isn't going right.

I did have some emotional/mental meltdowns though. By the end of week 2 I was SO over the liquid diet. I also didn't lose anything from day 7 to day 21, so that was another issue for me. You may be lucky physically but it might not be quite so easy mentally and emotionally in the coming weeks, just try to prepare as much as you can!

Recovery can and should go very smooth if you support yourself by staying on plan.

It was a breeze for me. I opted to stay on the Protein Shakes only for an extended period because...well...because doing so was working and I was a bit apprehensive about the puree stage and didn't want to fool with it.

I have had zero issues with recovery (3 weeks tomorrow) and feel great! Glad you do too!

I even asked the surgeon at my 2 week check up if he made everyone's stomach the same size because I felt like he had made mine different somehow

I had almost zero issues with recovery as well. I had the same thoughts at times... waiting for the other shoe to drop. My pain wasn't bad (which was fortunate since we discovered Dilaudid has almost zero effect on me), I was tolerating liquids just fine, diet progression to solid foods went without any major hitches. I had 2 episodes of violent hiccuping early on from drinking too fast, and have had a few bouts of nausea when I ate too much or too fast. I've also had several "mini dumping" episodes when I tried to eat something my sleeve doesn't like. But I haven't thrown up yet (knock on wood) or had any of the "don't trust a fart" situations, and I'm coming up on 3 months out.

Count yourself lucky, and don't borrow trouble.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
