Yes it can...they thought it was reflux...and i did have some but it was a twisted sleeve...because of a hiatal hernia...i was in surgery for 4 hours trying to get it straight. I do feel better food now goes down and drinks..no burning ...but still cant eat though it still hurts..so i guess swelling is still inside.

Really... I would much rather be fat and happy. Lol but I wasn't having any health problems I wanted to prevent health issues. My husband was having health issues and so we went threw this together as a team and I ended up with so many complications. Sucks that I did it more of a preventative and also as a support to my husband and ended up with the problems but also kinda funny lol

I am so sorry that this is happening to you!!! Have not had anything like this happen because I did not have the bypass but I hope somebody may have some insight that will help this might be far-fetched and I'm sure you've already had these tests run but I'm just wondering if they check your thyroid maybe something changed after surgery and it was overlooked... I will keep you in my prayers!

Funny you ask that.... My PCP just checked it. Its in normal rage but on the high end of normal went to the specialist and they are not concerned. But in 2 weeks are still gonna do the scan just to make sure!

That's good I'm glad they are going to double double check, my friend was opposite she never has had weight loss surgery but after she had her last daughter she could not lose weight and the doctor told her she needed to quit eating and so she got a second opinion and maybe even a third and found out that her thyroid was not functioning at all she finally got on the right medication and now is at a healthy weight and feels normal again...

I was to go in and revise my sleeve to bypass...call it change...lol but with all the test the doctor stated that he would only have to move my sleeve or straighten it out as it was twisted , and attach to my liver and my diaphragm.

O my goodness I had no idea a sleeve can twist

So very sorry for everything that has happened to you!!! I had my RNY July 2, 2013. Within my first 3 or 4 weeks I started having lots of pain. It felt like the food just sat on top of my pouch and would finally go down. My PA wanted to do an Endoscope but I said I really thought it was just me taking 1 bite to much. By Nov 2013 I couldn't hold anything down not even water!! So I had an Endoscope with a dilation, again in Dec, again in Jan 2013, again July 2014. With my last Endo on Jan 2015. What I wanted to say they told me that it is basically like scar tissue. I know you have had lots of tests done, and they probably checked it all out, but I can say that it hurt like hell and at first it was hard to throw up after awhile it just came right back up. I actually had taken my sleeping pill at 9pm and at 5am the next morning I threw up that pill not even a little dissolved. I also ended up with an ulcer. My Surgeon had me taking a Prilosec for the acid. But my PCP finally said enough is enough he put me on DEXALENT it worked so well. Please don't give up...fight for your life!!! If you don't no one will!! If you need to go to another DR. There has to be a reason for this. They do too many successful surgeries. There has to be something or someone out there that can help you!!! It seems like you really got the bad end of the stick!! Again I'm so SORRY!!!

I had gastric bypass in 2006 and lost 155 lbs. In 6 months. I became exercising everyday by walking and doing Curves 5 days a week. I was losing 2 lbs everyday. I didn't want alot of loose skin so I thought all the exercising would help. First surgery was my gall- bladder 3 months after gastric bypass. Then I started having severe pain. I was passing out because the pain was so bad. Kept going to ER and sending me home with pain pills but no reason for pain. After 3 trips to ER with no answer I went to a different towns ER hoping they would do an MRI or something to find out what was wrong with me. They did an MRI from belly button down and said I had a small cyst on my ovary but that shouldn't be that painful. That ER gave me another script for pain pills. I couldn't even walk I was in a wheelchair. I got to my sister in-laws car and I called the hospital's board president and told him I felt like if I went home I was going to die. He told me to go back into the hospital and he would get me checked in for exploratory surgery. The next morning a gynecologist surgeon went in to do exploratory surgery because of the little cyst they had found. A few minutes after starting the surgery she went into my chest and was horrified to find my entire chest full of puss. They had to stop the surgery and find a doctor who knew about gastric bypass's. Luckily a few months prior to my surgery a doctor had came from Texas after doing over 500 weight loss surgeries and wanted to go into doing ear/nose/ and throat because he was burn out on doing weight loss surgeries. Within 15 minutes he came and did a revision of my gastric bypass because they had hooked my intestines up backwards during the first bypass it had herniated and had been throwing puss and toxins into my chest for a year. When I woke up my entire family was there. They had been called because the doctor didn't think I would make it out of surgery. I had 42 staples from my breastbone to my belly button and 998 stitches from hip to hip. I was 327 lbs when I had the first RNY Gastric bypass, I was now 126 lbs. I now 10 years later have had 17 total surgeries I wish I could go back and never had done it. I still take zofran everyday for nausea and have for 9 1/2 years. I know what your going through and hope you get better and don't give up. I am taking counseling it is helping but Im just tired of being sick all the time. I'm sure you feel the same way. Good luck on your journey.

Oh my god...

Hi!

I was reading your post and I would like to know how you doing

I m going through held with my Dgtr.

My Dgtr had surgery nov 7 2016, evethhing was fine. Dec 2 I brought her back to ER for pain and fever. She had a leak. Dec 2 surgery done, abdominal drain and peg tube inserted.

Dec 9 another surgery, , washout for peritonitis.

Dec 10 hemorrhage ... needed 10 units of blood in 3 hrs, ended up in lung and renal failure. In coma connected to ventilator ( artificial life) for 3 weeks.

Sooooo horrible. Dr's were thinking she will die any minute.

She was transferred to NY hospital, out of the ventilator 2 weeks ago.

We been in the hospital for 3 months. ICU and now regular floor.

She has s tuve in her nose, abd drain, wound back and the tPN , not eating or drinking , leak still there.

Planning to convert her to bypass but they can't do it now until the infection comes down and she recuperate... planning minimum 6 months to a year. She is only 19 years old and planning to stay for a whole year at the Hospital....

Pls help.....

What is this.....

Sometimes I think she will die

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
