gustavio 439 Posted November 14, 2016 (edited) I tried to have a glass of wine the other night. Took a few sips and felt buzzed. Poured it out. Will be waiting a while before that happens again. I love love love wine and pre op would drink a bottle or two a week. But I'm fine waiting. I do not like being drunk Ps.....I'm 2.5 months out Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Edited November 14, 2016 by gustavio
theantichick 2,204 Posted November 14, 2016 I was 2.5 months out when I tried to drink a hard cider for my birthday. I had maybe 1/4 C. before I passed out on the couch. Tried again this last weekend, got maybe 1/2 C. down and got super sleepy again. I'm wary of trying hard alcohol, I think it may be a little hard on my sleeve. NikkiRT 265 Posted November 15, 2016 I am not much of a drinker.. having said that I did have 1 small drink last weekend with no issues. I had a vodka tea and asked that they only put a half a shot in it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
shelly.s 11 Posted November 16, 2016 I was told not ever. Just not worth the possible issues. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Dub 9,922 Posted November 16, 2016 I waited almost 3 months. Very careful. Test drive things slowly and make sure you add the calories into your daily tracker. There is an impact to weight loss....just as it would be if you ate stuff that wasn't on plan.
Heather I 500 Posted November 16, 2016 I had a couple sips of my husband's beer at 6 weeks out -- and I mean baby sips -- just to wash down something spicy, and the carbonation was not fun. Now at 8 weeks out, I have a weensie solo shot cup of apple pie moonshine, and it's fine. Wine tastes gross to me -- tried a sip of it and it wasn't good. I'm okay with Water, but I do miss social drinking -- not drinking to excess, but I can't fathom a beer at this point. Oh well. Small price to pay in the long run to get where I want to be. BelgianGuy 350 Posted November 17, 2016 I waited around 3months out for a glass of wine, and have just stuck to this alcohol. I have had three beers (in holidays in the Baltic Countries) and it took me ages to sip them down and didn't feel that great. I usually have one or two glasses of wine with friends during the weekend though.
Hammer_Down 631 Posted November 17, 2016 I have gone through 3 distinct periods of my life where I was a very heavy drinker. This past year, I began travelling to Houston for work where a dear old friend lives, and began binge drinking again (a 40oz bottle of rum in a night, each). During that time, it was becoming more and more common to put away a box of wine every weekend at home. I drive for a living, and have never been tempted to take chances with my employment, but was using all my downtime to get drunk. The weight gain from my poor eating habits while drinking plus the drinking itself is what drove me to have WLS in the first place. I'm not sure drinking will ever be a regular part of my life again. I'm going to Italy in the winter, when I will be 5 months post op. I don't plan to indulge in Pasta or bread, and I'm undecided if I will indulge in glass of wine here or there. cozycastle50 19 Posted November 18, 2016 3 months. 1/2 a glass of wine. Nothing bad happens. Just get sleepy a lot quicker so I'm careful to just have one drink every once in a great while Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
eliminnowp 113 Posted November 21, 2016 I had a beer at 3 months out. I had no issues with carbonation, no discomfort. I felt the same level of drunkeness as I would have pre-op. No big whoop. I did drink it very slowly, over about 1.5 hr. Also it was poured into a cup. Since I want to continue having sucessful weightloss I don't plan on making it a regular habit - just a special occasion treat till I'm at an improved and manageable weight. SleevedMetal 3 Posted November 21, 2016 I waited six months. Went on all inclusive, so it was hard not to drink. I learned that my new limit was two and to make sure there was a lounge chair nearby because it almost always put me to sleep.
