Bowel Problems

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have been having some worrisome bowel movements in the last month. At first I wasn't very concerned just believed I had probably ate something that didn't agree. It started last month With a few loose pale grey colored bowel movements, but am having them more frequently. I was sleeved April of 2015 and haven't had any problems. I've also had small headaches and some vision issues. So thought I would check to see if this is something that has happened to others that have had the surgery or I need to see my primary doctor. Thanks

Hi JG,

Have had a similar experience. You should see your Dr & nutitionist. food intolerance can creep up on you slowly. Consider lactose intolerance, or wheat, decreased fat absorption . Can you link certain foods to your symptoms ( gas, bloating, diarrhea etc.) ? For me too many veggies / Fiber is a problem. Bile reabsorption probs. can lead to pale stools. Get blood work done! I didn't realize I had mild anemia & low Vitamin D levels. Prebiotics & Probiotics can help. Our gut / digestion has changed...so think your situation is common.

The vision issues can be caused by Vitamin deficiencies, definitely Vitamin A. I've had blurry vision in the last month. I did a google search and found others who have had this due to deficiencies.

Hi everyone, haven't been on in a moment. My question is do anyone have Constipation problem. Every other day I have to take something to go. Need some suggestions please

Same complaint! I take that psyllium bulk fiber (capsuels-Walmart) but ya go a few days on then a couple days off or else THAT causes constipation too.
Then follow with a gentle lax... Throw in Water & fiber rich foods yet "it" (blockage) still happens... I thought "sh*t" was the one that was supposed to happen...@least that's what the wise-old tee-shirts used to say.... Idunno- in this topsy- [emoji90] less world now-a-days man.... I just...dont...know ! [emoji30] [emoji27] [emoji27] [emoji85]

Well if you're still on a calorie reduced diet, it's going to take longer to produce enough waste to need to go. As well, and a very important thing to remember is that by using stool softeners or laxatives you're giving all of the muscles and everything that normally does the work to create waste for excretion a 'day off work'. Easily creating a now lazy system that thinks it will continue to do a half-assed (oh yeah I used a pun) job.. There are so many variables, a lot of them come from what is being eaten, if it's enough proper fibre, and water, and medications or Vitamins can do it as well. Asses things that may have changed (besides wls) and I strongly suggest trying to fix it naturally rather than with pills or liquids.
Don't hold it in when you have to go either. Your body can become so heavily reliant on laxatives it may last your entire life. Prolonged use of laxatives has been linked repeatedly to seizures as well. Try straight prune juice, or consider a squatty potty. I've heard of people using children's bathroom sink stools as well because they are less conspicuous. Physical activity can help too. Just some thoughts.
As a person who goes once or twice a week I've unfortunately already done some research on the topic :) hope it's all worked out

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
