Does anyone else ever experience hiccups or small belches after they eat or drink????

When I'm full I get the hiccups. There is a nerve that gets pushed when you are full which causes this. I can't remember what it is called but I know it is something like "the vergus nerve" sorry I can't recall the name. Sometimes it doesn't happen until I'm overfull. That is a sad time. Miserable.

I did early on but its very rare now.

One thing that continues to happen daily, is my nose runs when I eat or drink.

I wish it would stop !!

The vagus nerve is stimulated when you are getting hiccups.

Depending on how long you are getting hiccups for, this may be worth discussing with your aftercare team. There is a small, but very real, chance of damaging the vagus nerve during the gastric sleeve procedure.

I have had hiccups only twice since surgery. The first was at about 5 days post op and I wanted to cry, it was so painful.

The second time was last night, and I was so pleased it didn't hurt at all.

I was getting non-stop hiccups. I called my surgeon and his team said "You need to remember just how small your stomach is now, you need to use good portion control." I just started crying. lol! I have chronic hiccups, I wasn't eating or drinking anything. I was more worried about hurting my hernia so that is why I called. I then had a melt down. I was like "You just told a fat person who had their stomach removed and who can't drink more than 2 table spoons at a time right now that they are using poor Portion Control? ?? Are you kidding me???" I felt so defeated and upset. I tried telling them I have chronic hiccups and that I'm upset the assumption was I'm eating too much and just reprimanding me rather than asking me any questions. Turns out I think it was my Hiatal Hernia that had been repaired. I think in the healing it was giving me non-stop hiccups. I mean, I had them for about 4 days straight. I'd get them in the middle of the night while sleeping, while I was just walking or talking, etc. But yet I was told I wasn't using good portion control. Ugh, that's still a rough one. I was really hurt by that because I'm a "follow the rules to the letter" kind of person and I was journaling each teaspoon I was putting in. When the assistant kept going about portion control I read her my daily diaries and asked "Does it sound to you like I'm using poor portion control?" lol!

How sad!! When does this crap change. Everything that we go to the DR.'s for it all happens because we ae fat!! I remember when I went to the DR for Strep Throat they told me that if I wasn't fat I wouldn't get sick with it. MAN O MIGHTY I can't believe that a BARIATRIC DR would be so callused. I'm sorry. I hope you got some relief from your hiccups!

yes, it was very upsetting. I felt like I was getting a rote, automated response. I would have appreciated some questions regarding what and how I was eating before telling me 1 week post op that I was using poor Portion Control. I got over it but that was a big blow, I now realize my surgeons office isn't really there to help, just tell me what "I'm doing wrong".

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
