Vacation after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I most likely will be having surgery in January, my husband wants to go on a trip to Las Vegas in February to meet with some of our friends. My question is, if I'm only 4 weeks out of surgery do you think I will do ok being away from home? I'm not sure what to expect... or would it be best for my husband to plan to go without me? Thank you :)

I am 3 weeks out from RNY and I would absolutely go on vacation. You will just have to plan well. Have food options.

There's not a definitive answer to this question since it depends on so many factors that differ from person to person. It would require a great deal of planning, but I think it could be done. It doesn't really matter where you are as long as you are getting the requisite amount of Protein and Water in each day and that you exercise appropriately.

We were planning vegas for New Years but have rethought our plans because vegas without buffet and liquor wasn't as appealing.

We had a trip to Europe already planned. Leaving Dec 16. I finished my prerequisites on 10/3 and my surgeon kindly scheduled my surgery for 10/25 so I would be fully recovered because of the theoretical risk of blood clots with all the air travel.

Seems like a month would be plenty of time to recover enough to travel. Eating on the road might be challenging. Plan ahead. Get a small scale and maybe a small "bullet" type thing to chop/mince your food.

Suggest you ask your surgeon about your internal stitches and healing before you go. I heard of a person who switched to solids too quickly due to being on vacation. She developed a leak and infection. You want to carefully follow your food plan.

Had lapband surgery 10/12/16

I will be 3.5 weeks post op when we head to Disney on Thursday. I'm not worried...will pack some Protein shakes and foods for myself but in general I feel great and am really looking forward to the trip. I plan to stick to my diet wherever possible and if I can't find something then have a Protein shake instead.

I am 2 weeks post sleeve and while I am not in pain or anything I still get tired every afternoon and sometimes nap (or at least rest). I am ready for bed about 9 at night. Maybe things will change drastically for me in the next 2 weeks but I think people underestimate that this is major surgery. Also, most of us have restrictions on lifting for 6 weeks so no lugging your suitcase or anything. I would be scared I would forget, heck even at home I have almost forgotten a couple of times.

I know I am the odd person here. Overall my surgery went great and I feel much better than I thought I would. But a trip where I have to walk a lot (Disney, Vegas, I have done both and wow, they were both hard even when I felt 100%) and couldn't be certain I could eat what I need when I need it, just doesn't sound like fun to me.

I would have given a different answer if I were still on liquids. Having RNY week 3 was purée and energy levels are a completely different story on purée versus liquid (at least for me).

It depends if your friends know you just had surgery and will respect the face you cannot drink or eat at this time. I had the same situation after my surgery and just to accomplish my goals I sacrificed not doing a lot. Best choice I made personally since now I can eat anything in moderation. Drink. And have fun. No one know I had surgery. I'm down. 140 lbs after 6 months and now just maintaining post-244766-14791769056494_thumb.jpg post-244766-14791769245831_thumb.jpg

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
