I was sleeved on 11/9. My surgery and hospital stay went well. My first couple of days at home, however, were less than comfortable! The main thing was I was afraid of my sleeve (lots of gurgling, pressure and odd pains when I ate or drank "anything"). I feared vomiting because I've heard how awful that can be, so I was super tentative about eating and drinking. On top of that my system doesn't like hydrocodone, so I was on no pain meds except for an occasional Tylenol. THE GOOD NEWS!? I woke up today (4 days post op) feeling quite a bit like myself again! The pain has subsided for the most part and once I began including more warm full liquids, my sleeve stopped being so scary. Everyone is different, so my advice would be to have a variety of things on hand to try at home and try them at different temperatures if need be. If one thing doesn't work, move on and try something else until you find what works (don't wait!). Also, get to know your new physiology and don't fear it (I feel like I'm getting better acquainted everyday with how my body now functions). Lastly, remember when you're feeling bad it's only temporary and we're only at the beginning of this journey. Good Luck!

Best of luck with your surgeries! Wow lots tomorrow! :) I was sleeved in April... my best advice.. bring a robe and some comfy slippers or try to score an extra pair of the hospital's slipper socks, so you can get up out of bed and walking laps around the floor with your nurse as soon as you feel up to it. Make friends with your night nurse! Expect nausea-- and hopefully it wont be as bad as you expected lol. If your throat hurts more than you thought it would (mine was the worst part-- well that and the nausea) let your nurse know! Mine was able to call the doctor and he had her give me some chloraseptic throat spray that made all the difference! Get as much sleep as you can while you're there...give yourself time to heal. Don't worry about hurting the hospital cafeteria's feelings by not eating what they might send up while you're there.. if you can get the broth down- great.. if not- just focus on trying to get those little sip of Water down.

You might have stocked up on Protein powder and other stuff before hand.. and your body might not be so happy about it.. that's ok. Don't force it. It's more important to get fluids in and not worry about Protein right away. You do not want to become dehydrated. Get up and walking around at home as soon as you can too.. a little further every day.

Me too! I'm going in tomorrow and i"m also curious about what to expect. I've read lots of these posts, so I think I have a pretty good idea, but I'm always looking for new info. I'm on my jello/broth/water/popsicle regimen today...i have to get up at 4:00am to get the pre-op shower and then into the hospital.

good job everyone!

I'm almost 2 weeks post op. I expected way more "stomach" pain than the actual random pain I had. No nausea and to this day no vomiting and I was prepared for it but it never came. Gas pain is random and it moves in odd ways. I walked, rested a few hours, walked, and walked. You don't walk because they're telling you to; you do it for comfort. Same with sipping. I thought I wouldn't be able to monitor my gulping but your body accommodates quickly after there is a few times of sipping with pain. It becomes 2nd nature.

Post op 24 hours I had pain in random places at different times. I had 2 Dilaudid doses in the hospital. Came home, went to the grocery store with boyfriend, got back home and took a Norco. Then I took one before bed. The next day, I took 2 Norcos (once in the evening and once in the morning.) The following 2 nights I took one Norco at bedtime. The night after that I took Tylenol.

I can only give my experience with pain and healing. I was fine a week later less a rash that is almost healed and a slightly twinge-y pain to the right of my belly button. I'm meeting my Protein, Water, meals, and exercise goals.

For me, I healed much faster than I expected. You know when you get a cold you only feel slightly better every day? With this, I felt significantly better every day.

Best Wishes! You'll do great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
