Alexis99 67 Posted November 13, 2016 Hi all! Please share some things that helped you in the hospital and that dreaded first week home. Now that you can look back, was there anything that you wish you would have had or done differently? Thank you so much in advance for your time. Vinasu 621 Posted November 13, 2016 Honestly, my recovery was incredibly easy. One thing was, though, I over prepared. I bought tons of liquid and soft foods not realizing how little I'd be able to eat, and how few things I'd want to eat. It was a big waste of money. I also bought everything else on the lists: robe, slippers, simethicone, lip balm, etc. I didn't need any of it. It was all a waste. Redmaxx 740 Posted November 13, 2016 My recovery was easy as well. I would recommend taking a pillow with you if you ride in a car just in case you hit bumps. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
DebiW 45 Posted November 13, 2016 I took my heating pad, and it was a life saver as I had gas pain in my back. Also I took Baby Lips for my dry lips, that helped. I even took a small fan with me in case if I needed it, however I never used it. The hospital furnished a small 7" fan that clipped on to the bed rail for me as my room was a tad warm. I too brought my robe, house shoes too, they were not needed as each patient I saw walking was wearing the socks the hospital gives you and a second gown to wear as a robe. Best of luck. hdw85 48 Posted November 14, 2016 Only things I used in the hospital was my own pillow, a nightgown, and my phone and headphones.. have comfy clothes to ride home in and use your pillow to hold against your stomach Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

janicemscott 8 Posted November 20, 2016 I had a pretty easy recovery. I took my own nightgown and I have to say I'm so happy I did. It was nice to walk around without stuff being able to pop out. I took other stuff too that I didn't use. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Rachel412 116 Posted November 20, 2016 I brought slippers, a robe, PJ pants, toiletries, and a pillow. The only things I used were the slippers, PJ pants (once they took the catheter out) and toiletries. I couldn't use the robe because of all the IV and telemetry lines. Oh and lip balm- that was ESSENTIAL!
sjohn185 25 Posted November 22, 2016 I am 14 days post op and feeling fantastic. Even went dancing Saturday night. Try to get off the pain meds as soon as possible. I stopped them the next morning after my surgery. They make feel worse. I just took regular liquid Tylenol. Dr let me skip puréed and I'm on soft food. My BIGGEST issue was drinking. I just couldn't get the sipping thing down. So even though my dr said no straw he told me to try one of those tiny coffee stirrer straws and it's been such a help. I feel like I'm drinking a big drink but because of the tiny straw it's a small drink. I've been able to drink 4 cups aday so far.
