Hi all! I found out at about 10:00 A.M. that my insurance is going to pay for my surgery! Yippee! I am 34 years old and have a BMI of 48, so I need to lose about half my person. Still not sure which surgery I am going to have. I like the lapband because you lose more slowly and it gives your skin time to "spring" back into shape. Another part of me likes the RNY because of how rapidly you lose weight. I am probably leaning more towards the band because it seems to me that it will be a lifelong tool in weight management. I have a friend who had RNY and she has gained back every pound she lost. Anyway, I'm just glad that I'm approved and things will be moving forward.

Congratulations Lori, That is very wonderful about your insurance. Keep reading this blog and if you can find a blog regarding RNY so you can make an informed decision. Have fun on your weight loss journey.

Regards,

Alfie

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
