I have not been sleeved yet, but my nutritionist said that it usually starts to happen between 3 and 5 months post-op.

She also said that although some people think the hair loss is based on not taking your Vitamins or not hitting your Protein goals, it's not. While those things are important, the Hair loss is just a side effect of the stress the your body goes through after surgery.

People are different, some have a minimal hair loss, others have more. And my nutritionist said that it should stop around 1 year post op.

I am six months out and my hair is falling out in extreme amounts. It started at four months. At this rate, I think I may lose all my hair.< /p>

I started losing my hair at 2 months post op, I'm 3 months post op now and still losing it. Luckily I had thick hair to begin with. I just hope I stop losing it before I have to resort to extensions.

They say Biotin which is a hair nail and skin Vitamin you can take to help with that good luck.

Thank you

Mine just started in earnest the last couple of weeks, and I'm coming up on 3 months this week. So far, it's just a lot in the drain/sink. I know a lot about hair loss because my daughter has alopecia, and I don't think supplements help all that much. One of the body's responses to trauma (which the surgery counts as) is to recycle hair and skin cells rapidly, which causes the hair to fall out. Keeping Protein up and taking Vitamins as needed should let it resolve fairly quickly, but I think it either happens to us or doesn't.

I saw a consultant dermatologist who said exactly the same thing. She said that nothing could prevent it if we are patients that have it happen.

I am 2.5 months post op. hair loss started last week. I'm convinced I am going bald lol. My doc assured me that my hair is long and thick and I will be fine. But in the past week I have noticed a large change. Use to wrap my ponytail holder twice around and now can wrap it 3 times. All within a week. I am sure hoping it slows down or stops VERY soon. I had a rough start nutritionally since I could not hold anything down for 2 weeks. I think not getting my Vitamins and Protein may have amplified the Hair loss. Idk

I have heard too many people say that Biotin made them grow hair in places they didn't want it (upper lip and chin for women, hairy arms, etc) My hair is so dark I don't want to risk it. I plan to keep up with my Protein and Vitamins and if my hair gets really thin I will get a short cut. I have been wanting one for a while anyway. It will grow back.

I had thick hair prior to surgery (not thick strands just a lot of hair). My hair started coming out about 3mos post op (June/July) and stopped toward the middle of October, almost 4 months later. It would come out like crazy in the shower by the end I would have a literal handful. I just knew it was never going to end and I would be left with bald spots or be completely bald. I wear my hair up for work so yoga headbands were my friend to hide my bared scalp since the most noticeable place was up front just above my temples on both sides. By mid-October, it seemed to stop and just 2 weeks ago I finally noticed a thick inch of growth at the previously thinning spots. I had my hair trimmed last week and my stylist said I had new growth all over that I could not see myself! It is very daunting when it happens but it does stop fallling out and does grow back. Some say it grows back thicker and gets curly, my sprouts aren't long enough to determine that yet, so we shall see. I have since had my post-op labs and all of my values were normal (my Protein was good and my BUN/Creatinine which can speak of hydration were all within range). I did take a Biotin supplement as well but it didn't stop the fallout. I agree that if it's going to happen it will happen and I think it is your body just in shock from the surgery and new way of doing things. Some other things physically have calmed down and gone back to normal since surgery around the same timeframe.

Has anyone tried to get their insurance providers pay for nioxin?? They are pretty expensive and I was wondering if I should try my luck at the doctor's office today..

Had to have what was left of my hair, cut off today. My hairdresser said he thought I was exaggerating about the Hair loss until he saw my hair.

Everyone says it looks good though so that's something!

I know, it makes me sad. But there is no avoiding it if it happens. Not everyone loses their hair though.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
