Post op, PCOS and pregnancy prevention, oh my!

Recommended Posts

Ha, see what I did there? Anyway..

I have PCOS, and have been on oral contraceptives since I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 12 with an 8 month break in-between sometime when I was 15/16 (now 24). I operate on a totally different emotional scale when I am off the pill, and my weight goes haywire, up and down and up again. Not to mention the horrendous, life stopping cramps.. ouch! I'm still in the pre-op stages, but my surgeon has talked to me about going off the pill since I've been on it for some time, and the risk of blood clots is high enough as it is.

What method of birth control have any of you used/tried/loved/hated? I'm a fan of getting my cycle monthly (for a variety of personal reasons, but mostly, so I know I'm not pregnant! haha! :) I definitely plan on talking to my doctor, even so, any input that can be provided would be awesome! Currently looking into the patch and IUD, but opinions on all are welcome! TIA!

I have endometriosis - take continuous bcp. Surgeon (male) asked me to stop, his PA (female, sleeve patient) said I'd be fine.

Without cbcp - I'd be in the hospital in pain. So I took my bcp until surgery day. I knew the risk and weighed it and that was my decision (with my PAs blessing).

If you want a longer term birth control the Mirena IUD is a great choice. Light to no periods, don't have to think about it.

Im on my second round of mirena, 7 years so far. I dont get periods and it was covered by insurance, so no ongoing costs associated with my lady parts.

You dont have to have given birth to use mirena. Its more painful to insert (and remove) if you havent, put the pain is mostly pissed of uterus cramps and goes away after a couple of days. For me, it was totally worth it for 5 years of no worries.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
