karen091866 120 Posted November 11, 2016 During my pre-op nutritionist visits, we were taught that alcohol consumption essentially stalled any/all weight loss for 3-4 days after...so I simply felt it wasn't worth it after making the decision to have my VSG. I have an indulgence, though---sugar-free Torani Bourbon Caramel syrup...drinking just doesn't appeal to me anymore...not to mention, I'm not wanting to experience any hangover, nausea, etc, due to my drastically changed BMI and stomach size...I simply don't know what my new body can/ could handle...and don't care to test that. Blech. The Toranis taste like wood chips or sawdust to me right now. I don't miss drinking; I miss not fitting in per se. For example, Tuesday. I needed -like 3- drinks. We had people over. There was drinking and it was tough. And it's not like I can have sparkling cider. We are tailgating next Saturday. I'm not even excited about it. It's just my boyfriend and me (no children) so I attribute this to mid -30s blues. We aren't super social and we are introverts. We are both somewhat disconnected from our families. We used to enjoy going out. We used to have a beer at a brewery every once in a while. We used to try new restaurants. And it's cold now. We don't live in a large city so it's not like we can go to museums, zoos, plays. It kinda sucks. I sleep alot to get through my boredom and my Amazon Prime Video/Netflix accounts have gotten a workout. I feel like a teenager again. Sorry. This turned into a tiny rant. But yeah. karen091866 120 Posted November 11, 2016 StephanieSO28, I hear you--my husband and I went out to eat with some dear friends a while back, and it was odd watching them sip/eat/sip/eat during the meal...while I can no longer do that. We live in WA, on the Pacific Coast, so we're surrounded by wineries and breweries...before my surgery, I was a huge fan of locally made mead-- (honey wines)---and had a rough time giving them up. LOL...we were in a frequent buyer club @ one winery...and they hated to see me go! It was one of the 1st sacrifices I had to work into my 6 month pre-op stuff...Mead and ALL carbonation were the first things to quit cold turkey. Long story short, NOTHING tastes as good as being healthy/ thin FEELS. (that is my inner mantra when I am faced with stuff like wine, bowls of ice cream, pastries, etc)
StephanieS0208 39 Posted November 11, 2016 Oh my goodness. I'm not sure if I'm more jealous of your views of the mountains and Water or the meaderies/wineries! It's not easy. I know you can attest to that too. During the pre-op phase I was so one-track mind to surgery but real life doesn't really kick in until after surgery. I'd say that is when the real struggle begins because there's no room for a little cheat here or there. DuodenalSwitchMan 12 Posted November 11, 2016 Being a "Mr. Goodie-two Shoes" I stayed away from breaking the law. But, this last summer I was in Denver for a convention and legally I digested pot Gummy worms. Yay for California voters! I am definitely bringing them up to my surgeon next week at my one week post-opt. I really preferred the emotional "not worrying what people think about me" feeling, just letting myself notice my surroundings, freeing me so much better than my two gin martinis. has anyone else had a discussion about edibles?
