Pregnant too soon after RNY

Recommended Posts

I had gastric bypass July 27th and just found out I'm about 6 weeks pregnant. I'm pretty nervous because I've been struggling to eat enough to keep me healthy nevermind sustaining a healthy pregnancy. Anyone else have any experience with a pregnancy shortly after WLS? Also I'm scared my weight loss will stop and not start up again. Idk there are so many things freaking me out. Not to mention this is baby number 4 and my last one will be one in December lol

Mine made me get on birth control immediately and I mean within a month. Had RNY 10/31 and will be getting an implant in 2 weeks

I met with my bariatric surgeon today and got some good info. I will be a high risk pregnancy but if I do exactly what I'm supposed to do everything should be ok. I can't take birth control due to other medical issues I've had, we were using the calendar method but I think we missed something lol but I feel a lot better now after talking to the surgeon and she assured me I will keep losing weight and the baby will be fine if I just follow a strict diet.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
