Nutrition Book

Recommended Posts

I'm about to go to be 4th appointment at the end of November but I was looking to buy a book that tells all about what foods and recipes that I can eat after surgery. On my 3rd appointment I learned that cottage cheese was considered a Protein. So I'm looking for a great book that will help me learn about food. The nutritionist that I've been seeing has NEVER been fat a day in her life. Also is there a place where other Bariatric patients can meet up and hang out?

Check with your dr office. They should have a support group that meet. Mine met 2x a month and some people had their surgery yrs ago and still come and are very helpful..i guess it keeps them from going back to old habits. This is a great form here also. Alot of helpful people. Im only 5wks post op and feeling good. Last week was really bad. I came down with some virus going around so i couldnt hold anything down and it was bad. Dehydration, nausea, headache, stomach ache, it was bad, ended back at er. But after iv for fluids, and about 3 days rest, its back to being great. And just in 5wks, ive gone from a 3x to a large and im loving it

weight loss surgery cookbook for dummies is a good starting point. Amazon for 13.50

the everything post op weight loss cookbook is another good one for food choices 11.55 amazon

Nutrition for dummies if you want an academic look into nutrients.

Google protien sources. You can educate yourself on things then talk to your nutritionist or Dr to make sure you are keeping in line.

Read your labels. You can learn a lot from the nutrient breakdown and ingredients. If you don't know what you are looking at, Google it. Obviously not everything is correct on the Internet but it's a start. If your local community college has a Nutrition class, take it. Our's has community based classes that only cost 25-70 dollars and runs 6-8 weeks. It's a non credit course but you can learn a lot.

My favorite thing to do is Pintrest my meals. Then for the not healthy ingredients I good replacements for it. Or I search for skinny version of whatever.

You can still have a lot of fun making and enjoying food. Last night I made PFChangs chicken lettuce wraps with roasted honey garlic cauliflower . Sooo yummy.

Don't get stuck in a box of eating an egg for bfast, shake for lunch, fruit or veggies for snack, and fish or chicken for dinner. (Unless you like routine) try new things.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
