Xombae 113 Posted November 11, 2016 I'm 6 days post op and was wondering if I can put pepper in my broth, or will it harm my new stomach? If it's not a big deal, what did you do to make broth more appealing?
Hammer_Down 631 Posted November 11, 2016 I did. I wasn't given any information about adding spices. Spicy food doesn't give me heartburn, so i jazzed up broth with cayenne pepper and ground pepper. I had surgery in Mexico, and the hotel broth was painfully bland. We bought some spicy ramen cups and just strained the noodles out to enjoy. I'm 3 weeks out now and it didn't cause any issues. I would suggest calling your surgeon if you're feeling unsure, as my experience is just my own.
Fredbear 397 Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) I'm keeping hot chili oil on hand to spice up any bland brot h, if I can tolerate it... Edited November 11, 2016 by Fredbear
sc101071 398 Posted November 11, 2016 I was pouring in the cayenne pepper by then for sure. Up to your tolerance. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
LipstickLady 25,682 Posted November 11, 2016 I wouldn't suggest coarsely ground pepper. You don't want anything lodged in your staple line. I don't see why fine pepper would be an issue, though. Hot sauce? Sure! Just be mindful of acidity.
LisaMergs 2,854 Posted November 11, 2016 Spicy rules!!! Anything and everything! As long as you do not get heartburn, go for it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
TiredOfMyself 141 Posted November 11, 2016 I do chicken broth with taco seasoning. It makes it a bit like white chicken chili.

TheRev 235 Posted November 11, 2016 I kept the crushed and powdered spices out of my broth for the first few weeks just to be on the safe side, but I DID use a bottle of Sriracha. I found that Wegman's had a number of great boxed broths and Soups that fit into the restrictions of the post-op diet and LOVED the spicy Thai broth. I lived off of that stuff!
