sunnydeeliteful 91 Posted November 11, 2016 I live in Tucson, it's the fact that everyone I know works and can't be there for me as there is no set day or time I will be discharged. If I can't get 64 ounces of Water down the first day I have to stay and extra day. I live o. A miniscule income and can't afford Uber or a cab. I have to give my ins co 48 hours ahead of a request for a free cab. So im in a catch 22 situation. I'll stop taking the pain meds the first day so that my system is clean and I can drive by the second day. Or ask the hospital if they have a free ride home system. Xombae 113 Posted November 11, 2016 I couldn't imagine driving after surgery. I drove myself today to some Dr appointments (it's my one week post op) and I'm still sore from it. Train tracks, potholes, speed bumps, and sudden stops really don't feel very good.
suzzzzz 1,005 Posted November 11, 2016 I really hope you can come up with a solution other than not taking pain meds just so you can drive right away. You will likely need them for a couple of days at least. And, getting 64 oz of Water the first day is unheard of. That will likely be an impossible task. A hospital isn't going to make you sit on the curb until your ride can pick you up. So perhaps a friend could be on standby to pick you up after they get off work. Armygalbonnie 643 Posted November 11, 2016 The max of fluids I was able to get in on day 2 was 16 oz. Nausea and pain were always present. I think most will agree that you won't be in any shape to stop pain meds. You are about to have MAJOR surgery! I easily think you will be able to give your insurance 48 hours notice. Good luck!! 4ukay1 43 Posted November 11, 2016 Tell the hospital your situation and they can release you in the evening when someone is off of work. Good luck. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
Sai 785 Posted November 11, 2016 Not sure if you stayed at the hospital for a few days, but mine was done outpatient so it wasn't allowed. Took a couple of days for the anesthesia to wear off.
NikkiRT 265 Posted November 11, 2016 The hospital Social Worker/discharge planner can also assist with this as well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
DuodenalSwitchMan 12 Posted November 11, 2016 Please, don't drive. reach out to someone. Hospital volunteers, the place you bank, any church, a police department senior volunteer. You don't need to go through the pain. hopefully, someone in the Tuscan area can hook you up or help. Even the nurses from your dr office and tell them you'll give some a ride, they just need to ask you. Now you have me thinking. Uber does have first ride free coupons.
