Drinking normally?

Recommended Posts

Vets - do you ever get to a point where you can drink an entire glass of Water again? The eating plan I've adjusted to, but I'm so frustrated with this inability to drink when I'm thirsty (which is always).

Do you get the ability to chug a cup of Water back? Would love to hear some experiences. Thanks!!

I can.

I don't remember exactly when I was okay with guzzling Water again, but it probably was closer to 8 months to a year out.

I can drink pretty Water much exactly the same as before. Maybe not wipe out a whole 12 ounce bottle in one go, but I can drink gulps of water after a workout without feeling bad or in any pain.

Yup me too! Not a whole 12 oz bottle but half a one or so and I can gulp while running.

Not a sleeve vet, but pretty much the first week I could drink 8 oz of Water straight with no issues. I could gulp it too but I followed my doctor's orders and didn't. I'm about 10 weeks now, and since the fifth week, I was ok'd to drink at any rate so I do.

I'm not a veteran either, but for me, it depends on the thickness of the fluids.

I was sleeved on October 20th and ended up having to get a CT scan last Friday for an unrelated hernia. So, this was about 2 weeks out for me. I had to drink two 8oz bottles of crystal light with contrast in it within an hour prior to the scan. I didn't think I could do it, but I did--taking small drinks. As I drank, I would periodically walk around the waiting room and burp to help keep the fluids moving through my sleeve.... I didn't have any problems drinking the full 16oz in about 40 minutes.

Contrast that with thicker Protein shakes. I drink Isopure shakes. I have to drink these slow, over the course of 20-30 minutes because they trigger some restriction.

I am two years post op and found for me that the volume depends on what I am using to drink the Water. I am currently using a Hydro Flask with the sports top. I can take pretty big swigs without problems. If I drink to fast I do feel it and if I manage to get some air when drinking I feel it. I end up burping. I work out pretty regularly doing HIIT and am able to properly rehydrate myself.

I am 6 months out and can drink much better than I did after surgery. I find it depends on the thickness also. I can drink Water faster than my Protein shakes. If I drink my Protein drinks too fast I feel a little sick.

This is a relief bc I am a HUGE Water drinker! I fill my 30oz Yeti at least 5 times just during my teaching hours at school, the. 2-4 more times at home after school. I am a camel.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
