I am kvetching!

Just had my telephone pre-op and when asked about my pre-op weight loss, I proudly announced that I've lost 16lbs since August 1st.

I met with the doctor on 8/9. He apparently wrote down "must lose 20 to 40lbs" on my chart. 20-40lbs BEFORE surgery. Saw him on 8/9. Surgery is 9/19. I've lost 16lbs and was feeling pretty darn good about that, but now I'm like they just debited my account 16,000 dollars and I might be turned away for not losing enough weight beforehand? I've worked like a trooper to lose 16lb in a month's time. I have 10 days until surgery. I might lose another 2-3 lbs, realistically--but another 20?

This is Bandster Hell, huh?

Sixteen pounds is wonderful. You should be very proud. What is the matter with these doctors anyway. I am sure they will not turn you away. Especially since they have your money.

they will not turn you away-my dr wanted me to lose 10% of my body weight- I lost about 7%-nothing was said to me on surgery day about the 8 lbs I did not lose-they just want your mind in the game and for you to be prepared for this journey-also helps them in surgery due to the shrinkage in liver size due to weight loss- you are doing great!

Thank you. I feel like I'm doing great! 20-40 pounds 40 days would be impossible (unless I'm banded)!

I'll shoot for 20lbs by the 19th.

I think everyone is worried about loosing enough - but it is really to make your liver easy to work with like already mentioned.

You are going to do fine!! 16 pounds is great!!! I *only* lost 12 or so on my pre-op diet and I have to remind myself that it is a great accomplishment!

Hi Darragha,

I see that you're being banded on 9/19 at NWWLS. I'm being banded there and on the same day too! :whoo:I go in tomorrow for my preop at 10:30am, but I am going to go earlier to (gulp) give them my cashiers checks :faint:. I have Dr. Michaelson, he's great. Well good luck on your journey and maybe I'll see you on the 19th. I haven't gotten a time yet because they only give you the times 48 hours prior to surgery.

adding ... i only lost 6 measly pounds (in 2 weeks) ... can you say "farewell to food tour 2006"?

I went on that food tour as well. I actually gained liek 11 before the pre op and lost it....lol....but hey whatever I am sure neither of us will ever do that again!

And, no I don't honestly think they will turn you away for not loosing enough. It would be nuts. If you could loose that kind of weight on your own in that amount of time you wouldn't need the band, let's be honest!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
