What do you use for "security" on the road?

Recommended Posts

I had a "situation" this weekend. I stopped at (I know, I know) at Taco Cabana (it's what you call an "impulse buy") and was going to have a small frozen margarita and taco salad. Had two sips of margarita and two bites of salad and had to leave quick. PB'd into an empty water bottle in the car...now THAT takes TALENT my friends! Started thinking about it and thought I better get some emergency supplies, especially since I am going to California for a week in October and will be on the road and eating out every day. I found something on line called the REDEBAG which is for motion sickness, sickness because of meds, morning sickness, etc. It's a little black clutch with discreet black liners. Now THAT is what I needed in the car! What do you guys carry around? And those who don't who are newbies....might not be a bad idea to get something. This was my first PB away from home....away from a bathroom. (I know....way too much information....)

I've heard some people talk about the sandwich size ziplocks for those just in case moments. Problem with that is that you can see right through...

Yeah, even I don't want to see what comes out of me...I like the idea of the black bag with the black liners. Discreet. I mean, can you see walking a clear sandwich bag over to a trash can? Yuck.

When I was first banded, and worried about how to handle this possibility, I took the large red plastic Solo drinking cups, and folded a paper towel into the bottom of them, and had about 6 stacked and in my back floor board. I used one, once on the road because I was sliming like crazy---I slipped back into old habits with a bite of popcorn chicken, and only pretended to chew!!!! It worked as I slimed my way home....where I had my 2nd, and last actual PB.

The cup worked really well for spitting in!!! Anyone driving past me, would have just assumed I was taking in, not spitting out.

A man I used to know used these cups with the paper toweling to spit chewing tobacco in...yuck!!!! But that's where I got the idea to do this.

The clutch sounds like it would be a good plan, but expensive I bet! And that would really suck, spending all your hard earned money on a pretty little bag to barf in!!!! Sorry, I just had to try to see the humor in our situation!!!

One thing about it, at least we can find an alternative, when "dumping" hits---bags nor cups would do us a bit of good!!!!!!

Yep, not cheap. But unfortunately, I am one of the last of the red hot gizzy freaks and I love this kind of stuff. Also, I can't exactly drag around cups and stuff when I'm on the plane, on the road, etc. I wouldn't normally worry about it but I just got one WHALE of a fill on Thursday, and I am going to work with this, come hell or high Water. I do NOT want to have an unfill because I know that it'll just be a matter of time before I lose more weight and the band gets looser anyway.

When I flew recently, I took some "Air Sickness" bags and they have already saved the day. Easy to carry in my purse, too.:omg:

Yep, I took them off the plane too!!! I forgot about them.

Unfortunately if you do end up overfilled, waiting it out seldom seems to work, the swelling defeats any weight loss loosening it up....is at least what it seems from reading all these posts about it.

Be sure not to wait too long, it is dangerous for your stomach, and can lead to erosion....better safe than sorry!

Post us a picture when you get your new bag---I wanna see!!!! For someone traveling a lot, it does seem to be more logical, than for a homebody like me!!!

I drink a lot of Water so usually have a water bottle or even better a disposable cup handy. Doesnt happen too often but when it does I usually have something.

Let me tell you, if you have a full blown PB, you do NOT want to be figuring out the logistics on how to get it to squeeze into a water bottle (that's what I had when this happened to me). It was the equivalent of projectile vomiting through a straw (not really, but you get my drift). Here's a link to where I ordered it....

REDEBAG a sickness collection bag for morning sickness and more

I'll just keep it in my purse when I travel.

I hadn't considered this possibility until I PB'd into an empty Burger King cup in a Best Buy parking lot. There was no way in hell I was going to hang my head out the car door like I was drunk or something. LOL. It was pretty bad. Now I always leave empty cups (with lids) in the car, JIC.

Ok ladies Im a bit confused. I'm a newbie and have eaten to the point that it fells like its..........well I call it the "funnel effect" but I have not actually thrown up. So what is PB?.........and how do I avoid it? Cause it sounds like it sucks!

I dont eat in the car. I never have, cars get very filthy when you eat in them. I would never let the kids eat in my car either.

So its not a problem I've had to face, but I can tell you, I couldnt get it into a cup or a bottle!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
