RJrocks 69 Posted November 8, 2016 For those with low impact desk type jobs, how long were you off for surgery? What is the minimum time you could have returned to work? When were you able to do moderate activities like house cleaning? TIA :-) Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App
ready_to_be_thin 179 Posted November 8, 2016 (edited) I am an underwriter at a life insurance company so basically I sit all all day. I asked my doctor how long he thought I should take off, and he said one week. I had my surgery on a Wednesday and went back not the following Monday, but the Monday after. So I took off about a week and a half, but that was only because I had enough vacation time to do so. I would have been fine going back that next Monday. Hope that helps! ☺ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App Edited November 8, 2016 by ready_to_be_thin

catwoman7 11,221 Posted November 8, 2016 I took three weeks off. I probably could have gone back after about 10 days - and certainly by two weeks, but I developed hives the third week (not sure what from), so I was glad I'd arranged to take three weeks off because I would have ended up taking that long *anyway* (the hives might have been unrelated to the surgery - we're not really sure what caused them)
QueenOfTheTamazons 634 Posted November 9, 2016 (edited) My doctor said that I could go back whenever I felt I could. I was sleeved on weds and went back to work the following monday. I worked 4 hours a day for mon, tues, weds and 6 hours a day thur, fri. I was back to full time the following monday. I could have worked full time by the weds (1 week) but I had the sick time and was being lazy. I am the accounts payable department at a solar company. HW 385 SW 359 CW 335 (50lbs down!) SlimBra 151 Posted November 9, 2016 hi! I have a desk job I had my bypass on 10/26. I am off work until 12/12. I am positive I could go back earlier but I'm getting paid while off so I'm treating this as a mini vacation. I have been up and moving since I have been home...dishes, laundry, vacuuming etc. I have grocery shopped too. I feel great. I'm wondering when I can begin working out...besides walking. Vinasu 621 Posted November 9, 2016 I had surgery on Wednesday, took off Thursday. Fridays are company- wide work from home days, so I worked about half a day and half on Saturday. I was back at the office on Monday. Technically, I only took two days off. I was tired, but felt fine. However, I had no comorbidities and no complications. So it was a really easy surgery for me. Travelher 915 Posted November 9, 2016 I went back to work after a week. I worked from home week 2 because there is a hilly walk and standing and jostling on transit for my trip. Didn't want to deal with that 1 week after surgery.

Redmaxx 740 Posted November 9, 2016 My surgeon made me take two weeks off (because I wasn't "supposed" to drive). I was able to telework for those two weeks and yesterday was my first day back in the office. I have a lift restriction or 10 lbs or less. I have been lifting more that that but I am careful not to over do it.
