bubbz333 49 Posted November 8, 2016 My work has open enrollment right now for FSA and I am thinking about signing up for it for my co-pays and medications during this process. My orientation class for surgery is next week so I'm not planning to make any decisions till after that. I do have a couple questions that I'm hoping some of you can answer from personal experiences. I'm curious if any of you have use FSA during your surgery process and if so how much did you set aside/use? My FSA policy says it will cover Vitamins and supplements if I can get a letter from my doctor stating that it's a medical necessity. Have any of you done this or had a hard time getting this letter from your doctor? Thank you!
annie819 15 Posted November 9, 2016 I was hoping to, but I changed jobs and my new job doesn't have it! Find out how many pre-op tests you'll need. (EGD, cardio clearance, pulmonary clearance, sleep study, psyche clearance, lab work, etc) You'll need co-pays for all those. I actually met my deductible, which was $1200. I only needed Multivitamins and Calcium pre-op. Hope this helps! Sent from my HTCD200LVW using the BariatricPal App
bubbz333 49 Posted November 9, 2016 Thank you @@annie819 ! I was was trying to figure out a way to calculate how many appointments and tests I'll have. That will be a good question to ask at my orientation. Sent from my LG-H901 using the BariatricPal App
BunnyBenson 14 Posted November 9, 2016 I am considering sleeve surgery in feb-mar cause my work does a six month thing and I'm on month three. I set my FSA to 1500 which is a little over my deductible. You can use it for all your copays and meds, I also got massages, contacts, chiropractor, and all pretesting this year. You can order from FSA store too- all sorts of things including pregnancy tests and Vitamins. I love mine and had no trouble spending 1500 this year without being chronically ill Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using the BariatricPal App
SLH-A 49 Posted November 9, 2016 My FSA was a life saver this year. My wife and I both had surgery, and our combined deductible/out of pocket max was $5,000. Our FSA only allows $2,500 for the family, so we maxed it. We burned through that pretty quickly with the sleep studies and a few other appointments. If you have the option, put as much in as your out of pocket max. Take advantage of it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
bubbz333 49 Posted November 9, 2016 Thanks for the info @@SLH-A & @bunnybenson My max for the FSA is $2,500 and I just found out that I can get reimbursed for my mileage to and from doctor's appointments. Since I will have to drive 42 miles one way to my appointments this will really help out.
