When did you start drinking coffee?

Recommended Posts

I am about 4 month post op and I started drinking coffee again at about 6 weeks.. but I only drink a cup or 2 at most a day. Just make sure you are keeping up with your other fluids.

I started back after 4 weeks one cup per day. Use to drink about 5-6 per day. One cup is all I can do. My team told me should drink decade, but am drinking regular. Helps me with bowels and only caffeine I have.

I quit regular coffee and went on Decaf 3 months before surgery.

I haven't had any desire for coffee at all since surgery. I certainly won't be slowly trying to get myself re-addicted to caffeine, the headaches from quitting were the week from hell.

Pretty early on... a few weeks out. It's actually pretty cool to feel it go down, all warm in the tummy. coffee was not prohibited on my surgeon's plan.

It took me about six weeks to really get energy back and feel myself. Make sure you're staying hydrated-- it's more important than anything right now. If you're approved for Protein shakes, get them in. Your body is asking for nutrients and also for you to take it easy and be gentle on yourself. Sounds a bit like dehydration... keep up on your water!

I am 8 days post op my body is a little achy, my incisions are a little sore but the worst is getting out of breath easily and getting severely fatigued. I could go up the stairs to shower and do a few things and get really winded and spotty vision. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I be worried?

2 weeks out i started with iced Decaf then after another 2 weeks i went to half-caf. Now i have either a small half caf or full caffiene. my nutritionist said a cup of coffee a day was fine as long as i made sure to drink equal or more h2o to make up for Fluid loss.

If you are getting all of your Protein and Water in no, don't worry. We are recovering from major surgery, in the old days people used to take 6 weeks off work for almost any surgery, now people expect to be all better in a week.

I was always a tea drinker before surgery, the only time I ever had coffee was if we were out for a meal and at the end of it.

I couldn't face tea after surgery but did start drinking decaff coffee about 6 months in. I still drink it now, just a few cups a week.

Im 15 months out and last week had a cup of tea and enjoyed it. Hurrah :D

I cautiously had my first small cup of low-acid coffee cold-brewed (it's gentler on your stomach) the first week post-surgery. It caused no negative effects, so I gradually increased the amount to my pre-surgery quantities. For the first couple of months I only had low acid coffee. Trader Joe's makes a good low acid French Roast, and Folger's has a coffee specifically for lessening the impact on the stomach. I also had coffee-flavored Protein powder, like the one Chike makes (could be misspelling the brand name). When I felt confident that I could drink whatever coffee I wished without detriment, that's what I began to do. I have half a pot in the morning and sometimes another coffee in the afternoon. It seems excessive, but hasn't caused any harm. My BP is actually low. My advice is to start slow, with a low acid coffee or a Protein Powder, and see how it impacts you.

Our doctor wanted us to wait a year before we had coffee. I had surgery 6 weeks after having a baby, went back to work 3 days after surgery, and was (still am) in grad school. coffee was essential. I tried Decaf, but it was horrible. I started drinking the real stuff around 6 months out. My hubby only lasted a month before he caved. I still only have one cup a day.

I wasn't required to discontinue coffee at all, but I did because it's always irritated my stomach a bit. I started drinking it again about a month post-op, adding a scoop of Protein powder to my first cup, enjoying the second with just cream and Monk Fruit sweetener.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
