Pre-Op Diet Begins Tomorrow Morning!

Recommended Posts

I'm still in disbelief that I'm actually here, at this point. It seemed so far away, and now here I am!

3 premiere Protein shakes a day, one lean and green meal, broth, and sugar-free Jello is what my days will look like.

There really are no questions here, haha. I suppose I'm just excited and wanted to share!

My poor little mind is trying so hard to wrap itself what is about to go down, and it's just not working. This next chapter in my life, well beyond my two week pre-op diet, is going to be completely bonkers.

Wow.

Let's do this!

This probably won't be your favorite part of the journey, but it is important nonetheless. Just remember your goals and power through. You'll be really proud on the back end of it!

Good luck with the pre-op work and best wishes as you countdown to your surgery.

Sounds just like my pre-op diet. If you're anything like me day three was the most difficult. Oh and the day everyone at work ordered out and got my favorite food. But I survived as will you! For me this was the hardest part so far.

I'm not anticipating any number in particular. The purpose of this diet is not just to lose extra weight before surgery, but primarily it is to shrink the liver.

When we eat fats, carbs, whatever, our liver gets fatty and enlarges. As it rests over the stomach, shrinking it allows for better access to the stomach for the laproscopic tools.

What I lose, I lose. What I don't will come off later.

Thanks so much, everyone!

And good luck to you folks who are hanging tough with me during the pre-op diet! My regular diet was actually not hugely different, but I'm sure it will still be a struggle. The foods/amount of foods isn't really a problem for me. The biggest thing I've struggled with since starting this process in January was to learn to sip. I have always been a gulper. I can no longer be one, but sipping is so much less satisfying to me. Oh, well. I'm sure it just takes time to get used to it!

Doing pretty good today, surprisingly! Still need to eat my lean and green and have my last shake for the day, but that'll come later. broth with garlic, salt, pepper added isn't too bad either!

The biggest problem I had today was Water, which I typically don't have any problems with! I had to leave my large water bottle in the car while I voted and by the time I finally got out, it was warm and yeah. I haven't gotten my Water in today, but we will keep at it.

Thankfully, I'm hungry, but not super hungry. Only day one, so who knows what tomorrow holds!

I am going to upgrade my broth for tomorrow. I think I'll cook carrot's, onion, celery and garlic then strain it. It was so bland today. I'm hoping that helps. Otherwise I stayed within my criteria. Genn, I fear the headaches. I suffer from Migraines. When I don't drink enough Water it is a trigger. I hope your feeling better tomorrow. Ahappycamper, I wish i could have something other then liquids. Drink, drink, drink keep your Water going.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
