Just wondering if anyone has had a sticture after surgery and what was your symptoms/treatment. I will be 6 weeks post-op tomorrow and as of last night I am not able to eat anything at all! Even Water hurts. I'm so shaken by this, and my anxiety level is through the roof. I am just about to go back to work and I was doing really well. I really need some reassuring that everything will get better cause I'm freaking out!

@@AmandaGillis When are you seeing your surgery team, or did you already today? It must be scary not being able to eat anything, and when you say Water hurts, are you still drinking? You have about one day with no fluids until your dehydration starts going past the point where you can rehydrate with oral fluids. Keep an eye on your urine, as it darkens, you're becoming more dehydrated. You need to be seen ASAP to ensure that you remain healthy, and if you truly have a stricture, to find out what your surgeon plans to do about it. Good luck, I hope you're feeling better soon!

Thank you @ShelterDog64. I am seeing my surgeon on Nov. 17th. I hope this goes away on its own and I will be telling him about this for sure. Pray for me that it's not a sticture or anything else serious. I don't want any more surgeries or setbacks.

What is a stricture?

Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App

@"MYWilliams" A sticture is the narrowing or blockage in your esophagus that can occur from scar tissue, after any gastro surgery. The narrowing or blockage prevents food and liquid from entering your stomach properly and can be quite painful at times. If not treated it can lead to malnutrition, dehydration and major anxiety about eatting or drinking.

So, you had a hiatal hernia repaired as well?

And yes I am still drinking, but not as much. This just started yesterday. I managed to drink 2 bottles of Water and 1 Protein shake yesterday. That was it.

If you didn't have a hiatal hernia repair, it's unlikely you have an esophageal stricture. And you are getting something into your stomach, which is very good! I'll reiterate: you need to see your surgeon ASAP. Good luck!

Believe me I hope that is the case, but there are other causes that develop strictures besides hiatal hernia repair. Your stomach acid can even cause them. I am praying it's not a stricture, but I have to admit, I have all the symptons

I called my surgeons office and she is not at all concerned. She told me to go back to my liquid diet that I may have overdid it??? Ummmm... I'm only eatting what I'm supposed to (soft foods) and very little of it, now I'm back to liquids. Call me crazy, but is this a little bizarre for 6 weeks post-op? Like I am on the brink of taking panic attacks because I cannot swallow my food or when I do, it feels like my stomach/chest is going to pop

The receptionist says this is normal and she will not be putting my appointment date ahead.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
