Talk about losing motivation...

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, well I have to lose 130 pounds to get the sleeve because my surgeon thinks it's unsafe to do this at my current weight. I started out at 579. I'm down to 537.

It's only been three months. I lost 18 pounds the first month, 15 the second and today I was weighed in and only lost 9.... 9 flipping pounds lol.

I don't know what happened. I have been following the diet religiously... She asked about my Water intake it has went down quite a bit. So I guess I'm not drinking enough water.. my daily calorie intake is between 1,000 and 1,500.. I'm not sure how someone with my weight and only consuming those calories can only lose 9 pounds... it really makes you lose motivation..

Ughhhhh 9 pounds :-/

You have done well on losing. Can you get another opinion from another surgeon though? Sleeve is safer surgery then bypass and less time under anesthesia. There are many people I have heard of around your weight that have had sleeve done safely.

I'm no doctor, but it sounds like your metabolism is slowing down.

Remember this: You've lost 42 pounds in 3 months. That's awesome! It didn't take you 3 months to get to 579 so it won't take 3 months to lose 130!

Keep going and remember that we're here for support and inspiration. You can do it!

Yea I was thinking of getting a second opinion. I will be looking tomorrow about calling some other local surgeons. Thank you for your reply!

Wash your mouth with soap. "Only" is a four-letter word.

Lost weight is weight lost. Instead of pooh-poohing nine pounds, let shedding them be its own motivation. You worked and you were rewarded.

Think.

Don't over think.

You're fine.

My nut says your body has to take a break from losing every 20-40 pounds to redistribute the fat. You don't lose it evenly. Otherwise you would be lumpy! Bump up your Water and walking. It's a process! You're doing great!

Well she has me doing chair exercises. I messed my lower back up a couple years ago. That's what got me here I wasn't able to walk more than 20 steps. I still have a hard time walking but it's getting better. I can go about 3 minutes of steady walking before having to sit or lean to loosen muscles in my lower back. Thank you for your reply!

Is there a public pool or recreation center or YMCA in your area? How about any rehab facilities that utilize aquatics? Water excercises can be very effective and something your back may be able to tolerate. And speaking of water, it is imperative to stay very well hydrated. Water is required for the metabolism of fat. Without enough water, the fat isn't going anywhere. You should be shooting for 150+ ounces/day.

There is a YMCA about 90 minutes away. I will be sure to drink plenty of water from here on out. I did some research about water intake and how it helps with your metabolism. Also by reading your post that reminded me that my Nut gave me a exercise physiologist number to call! Hopefully that will help too!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
