Getting enough protein?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve done 10/25 and have been miserable since. All day, everyday I'm sick all day long. Intense pain and nausea. I know I'm not getting enough Protein because I drink maybe one shake a day and that's 30 grams. It makes me instantly sick. Mouth watering, can't make it to the bathroom quick enough sick. I'm taking nausea pills and they don't seem to help. I've tried unflavored Protein powder in pudding, Soup. It doesn't matter. How are you guys getting your Protein in. I'm scared I'm going to lose my hair. I know I'm for sure eating less then 800 calories a day and not getting enough liquid.

So I guess what I'm asking is how can I get in more protein and liquids with out it coming right back up. Thank you!

Do you think the sucralose is making you sick? It made me sick like that...had to get rid of it all and turn to powder Protein with stevia and unflavored Protein. Made. Huge difference then I add fage non fat Greek yogurt to Soups and shakes.

You might want to ask the doctor for anti nausea meds too but you might want to get checked out to make sure your symptoms aren't from something more serious like a leak or something...all of the pain plus nausea etc concerns me

I try to drink inspire Protein Powder and premier shakes. They all seem to kick my butt! I have my phone appt with my NUT on Tuesday so I'll be sure to ask her about sucralose. I've been worried it could possibly be a leak but I have no other real symptoms. Just the pain in the stomach and my back is killing me so bad. Like it hurts to move and breathe sometime! I think that plays a part in getting in fluids. When you're just in so much pain you feel sick you know!

I am always surprised at how many people' docs or NUTs don't give them enough info...mine covered EVERYTHING....for the first month or so you are NOT going to make your goals..you are still healing and such...and you will work your way up there. The scary thing for me is everything making you sick...for this I would contact you dr immediately about it...if you are throwing up everything that means you are getting NOTHING..and that is NOT good for you, your healing pouch anything, you are also probably dehydrated from it which can make pains extra painful. PLEASE, call your dr or your doc on call (late night) to get help, especially if the nausea meds are not doing anything

Good Luck! Love Light and Blessings...Val

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
