I am new here, hoping to get some advice. My insurance required 12 week pre op program. I am 2 weeks away from the finish line and I feel like I am running in circles as soon as I complete one test or receive clearance I am told I need 4 or so more. I am about to scream , I don't get why they keep adding new obstacles. I should have my surgery date next week and I can't get the referral to meet the surgeon! I am so ready to give up. I have used all my vacation, pto and my life revolves around this program 6 to 8 hrs a week I am a full time student dbl major work 60 hrs a week and have other obligation. How have you all done this ? I have no free time, nothing just stressed. Anyone have suggestions

Just hang in there. It took me exactly a year to complete my program. One full frustrating scary year. Test after test after test. I also used up my sick leave and vacation time. It was a long tedious process. I even had to stay overnight in a sleep apnea center (which I absolutely hated). Then after I completed all of my tests and submitted for surgery approval, my case was kicked back for more tests!!! I was stressed and in tears, but I completed those tests too, and finally got my approval. I had my surgery in December of 2015, one year after my first orientation in December of 2014. It was all worth it. Every frustrating test. Losing my vacation time. The wait. All well worth it. Surgery changed my life, and I now have years of quality living to look forward to, so that one year I spent running around and jumping through hoops, was absolutely worth it. Stick to your program and do the tests and whatever else they ask you to do. IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT!

My time table was a total of nine months before I could have my surgery. I am glad it took that long. It is a very serious decision that you are making. The surgery changes your life completely. It is overall a good change, but a huge life change. Take your time and make sure this is the best decision for you.

Thank You for allowing me to vent. I just feel like I am getting nowhere fast. I have been researching this for 6 years, It the hardest decsion I have ever made. I guess I am afraid that it will all fall apartand I will end giving up .Just feeling drained. Thank you for your replies, noone understands how hard it is to make this choice and the emotional rollacoster that it entails. So glad I found this app. It is the first place I have come across with active members. :) :)

I saw you had replied to a thread of mine, too. Being in a similar situation, I feel the pain and anxiety of your struggles. I'm not sure how your surgeon is, but mine assumes everyone sits at home eating Bon bons all day and that we need to just get up and exercise and stay away from the fast food joints. I WISH I had the privilege of sitting on my couch just waiting for surgery to happen. Nothing against those who can do that, but it seems the surgeons believe that the only thing we have to worried about is jumping through the endless hoops. They go over that I need to exercise more each day, and that the 10-15K steps mean nothing since the weight just doesn't drop off of me. And there are no such things as monthly weight fluctuations. Gah...I do feel your struggles. Try to hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
