I woke up last night at 12:00am with excruciating pain, threw up all night and ended up bringing myself to the hospital at 4:00am. Found out it was gallstones. Has anyone else been through this? What was your experience like?

I have not, but it is definitely something I am aware of since it's common for WLS patients due to the very low calorie diet (VLCD). Hope you feel better soon. :(

I had to have my gallbladder out many years ago, prior to even knowing anything about WLS.

I was slim at the time.

I had horrible, sharp, stabbing type pains in my right abdominal side. These pains were getting worse and stronger.

An X-ray revealed a huge stone in my gallbladder.

I had my gallbladder removed ASAP, as I was then travelling a lot, internationally, and I was worried that if the stone moves, it could obstruct my common bile duct, which at 35-40,000 ft in the air, in the middle of Pacific Ocean would not be a good thing to happen!

I never had nausea or vomiting with it, just increasing pains, like being stabbed with a knife!

Good luck!

At the beginning of October I ended up having my gallbladder removed a week before my sleeve. Similar situation, I had the worst pain on the right side of my chest and felt like someone was stabbing me in the back between my shoulder blades. I had been ignoring it all week bc I knew I had wls coming up and thought it was just gas. I ended up waking my boyfriend up in the middle of the night to drive me to urgent care.

I was jaundiced and ended up in the hospital for 5 days and 2 procedures later, (ERCP to clean a duct into my stomach first) I had my gallbladder out then my sleeve one week later to the day on October 12th. I'm feeling so much better though, I kinda wish my gallbladder would have cooperated so I didn't have to have 2 surgeries.

Yes. 2 months after my sleeve I woke up in the middle of the night with extreme sharp pain right under rib cage on the right side. The next day it felt a little better but only when I was lying down in fetal position or doubled over. I finally went to the hospital and found gallstones as well and had it removed the following day.

I just had my gallbladder removed on 10/18 because of gallstones. I had my sleeve surgery at the end of May. I also had excruciating pain and was throwing up and went to the ER. They did a cat scan but didn't see anything. I saw my surgeon and he ordered an ultrasound and they found the stones. I had been feeling very sick and since the gallbladder came out I no longer feel nauseous!

I had my gallbladder out almost 20 years ago. My pain was horrible, usually right after eating a high fat meal, but it manifested as intense pain in a band around my upper abdomen, but radiating out from my spine (which is NOT normal). I definitely would throw up, and no drugs or anything could touch the pain of the attacks. They would last around 20 minutes usually and started with me throwing up and then the pain and writhing on the floor in agony.

After removal, the only lasting effect was IBS - I got to know where the bathrooms were in every store, restaurant and public building I visited very well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
