nennas_mommy 20 Posted November 6, 2016 (edited) At my last check in, which was 3 out of 6, I was told that I should lose about 5 pounds between each of the remaining appointments. So about 15 pounds total. She said if I do not do this then the surgeon will ask that I lose weight before I will be scheduled for surgery. And I'm not talking about the liquid diet that shrinks your liver type weight loss. She means, just lose weight. Im 250 now (6 pounds lost since I began) so it's not like operating on me will be dangerous due to my weight and after all, Im doing this because I can't lose the weight on my own! I'm a little freaked out about it and I guess I should add that I have feminine issues that make it difficult for me to lose weight. Did any of you have pre op weight loss requirements other than then liquid pre op diet? Sent from my iPhone Edited November 6, 2016 by nennas_mommy
blizair09 3,250 Posted November 6, 2016 (edited) My surgeon had no weight loss requirement (but I did lose 99 pounds during my pre-op six-month insurance-required diet), but the surgeon who did my mom's sleeve and my dad's bypass required them to lose 10% of their body weight before he would operate. It sounds like they are asking you to lose 15 pounds in addition to the 6 you've lost which is a little under 10% of your original weight. They are probably asking you to do that to make sure you are serious about making the life changes necessary to make surgery successful. That was the goal of my parents' surgeon. (And if you read a few posts on here, that's a good thing. Every day there are multiple posts by people who very obviously were/are not prepared to make real life changes at all...) nennas_mommy 20 Posted November 6, 2016 Unfortunately self pay is not an option for me and my insurance does have Bariatric coverage. Sent from my iPhone
itsmytimetoshine 3 Posted November 6, 2016 I just finished my 6months NUT appt and was approved. I actually gained 5lbs by my last appt and was approved by my insurance. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Ssze1109 163 Posted November 6, 2016 I had no weight loss requirements. I am self pay though. In fact when I saw the Dr and he gave me the 2 shakes and a meal pre op, he said he didn't expect I will lose weight in the 1 week pre op . I've been on it for 5 days and have not lost a pound! How do I go from 2 shakes and 1 meal of chicken and greens and not lose a pound? I think every Dr is different with requirements Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
