Chewing but not swallowing

Glad you are finding different ways to cope with it!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Says the newbie who has no idea what they are talking about.

She was talking about the OP saying that she was using popsicles as her new way to cope with needing to chew. No need to jump all over her.

That's funny bc you said empathy I don't speak it. And I said if you could read the past post including what I myself had already said. And again you can say that your not condescending but you are and you know it. But like I said thanks for your advice.

You're taking a joke I made with a like minded poster completely out of context. But whatever. I'd suggest you block me. ;)

Feeling great is one thing but u need to understand ur stomach is not heeled just think of it like a new born baby they only have fluids bc they're stomached can't handle anything but fluids. If a baby was to have a piece of chewed food they can choke bc it can slide down and choke them if this slides down it can cause severe damage even though u feel great ur tummy isn't healed so please watch doing this. Also it could cause eating disorders if U get used to that satisfying your appetite. You could potentially being doing more harm then anything.

The surgery is a choice the post op diet is a prescription to be taken as directed just like all other prescriptions. What happens if you are told to take two pain pills and u decide too take the whole bottle you can die right? So maybe think about that before doing things outside of ur ordered and prescribed diet!! It's not a joke and it's not to play around with. I highly suggest you talk to your NUT and maybe see a therapist to figure out coping techniques. Please don't do this. Gl with the rest of ur journey. And best wishes. Just remember mind over matter. It's mostly mental.

Has anyone done this. I have been chewing but spitting out food

That's called an eating disorder. If you're looking for others who do the same so that you feel validated, that's another problem. If you looking for others who do the same to tell you it's a bad thing to do, you don't need them. You already know it or you wouldn't have posted.

Take better care of yourself. How do you expect to make it through to the end?

Yeah, this behavior is one simple step removed from bulimia. Disordered eating is what we're trying to get away from, here.

@@atzvsg - Newbie and all, I did it. And I am not afraid to get "bashed" with you. I don't care what people think and I hope you don't either. Everyone's control levels are different. Not everyone here was a food addict before surgery. There are other causes for obesity. Once the weight is on however, it is very difficult even with the healthiest of choices to get the weight off. Everyone here however has struggled with something they have done that was not ideal, and was unhealthy for many years most likely. No one changed overnight, no one has even 100% changed. All of us will make mistakes even at 1 year post. People assume you can't just do it once or a few times carefully, just because "ooo it's forbidden" it's not good. You know that, and have already overcome it- you are awesome. I couldnt, but didn't make it a habit. The extra cheese-its, cheetos, cupcakes some people had last night that no one saw and they didn't post about was part of their own eating disorder as well. The need to chew is a human instinct. If people actually looked into bulimia or anerexia and what they really are like, I don't think they would seriously place the it in the same bucket. You will get through it. It is sooo ooo hard to not chew!! Gum helps me too. I hate Jello, pudding and yogurt or really anything sweet - never ate Soups or any time of smoothie until considering surgery. I just can't wait to eat fish Beans, spinach, lettuce broccoli, watermelon and avacados!! ;):) This time without chewing has made me appreciate that anything chewable is delicious! So super healthy food are all super duper appealing now.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
