How long did you miss work?

Recommended Posts

Getting the sleeve on nov 30. Just wondering how long to be off work? A week? 2 weeks? A coworker had it done missed a week of work no problems did great. Another did it missed a week got a leak and wound up in the hospital for a month. I drive a forklift unloading rail road cars. Not super physical work but a lot of bouncing around and opening the doors can be tough but I can get a coworker to do that. Think a week is sufficient?

I took off 6 weeks. I got sleeved on September 28 and I go back on November 14.

I would take more than a week. I took one week and the worked from home my second week. And I was probably more active than most. You still are pretty low energy on week two.

So far I'm getting 4 weeks off. Monday I will be 2 weeks post-op and still having some pain. Mostly the end of the day but sometimes early if I'm doing too much.

I took off 3 weeks. Looking back, I feel like this was about the right amount of time because after surgery my body changed to where I was requiring fewer diabetes and blood pressure medications. It took a little while to work this out and it was nice to be home rather than at work while having low blood pressure, low blood sugar. The pain wasn't really any issue. I just felt like I got tired out easily for the first 3-4 weeks.

A week. I originally took off two weeks, but I was lucky to have an easy recovery. My work isn't physical though, it's a lab and meetings type of job. I walk a lot in the lab but no carrying heavy things... Etc. If there was a lot of physical activity, it'd be another story.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
