Difficulty transitioning into puree, any advice pls.

Recommended Posts

3wks after surgery I am suppose to be in a puree diet but it is had to get it down. One tsp of yogurt I am so full for hrs, I can't finish a whole egg. I find comfort still with liquids and I have been sticking to it to get down my Protein in take and Water for hydration. Anybody with this same issues pls. Lost 21Ib.

You need to speak to your team about this as they are the best people to ask.

Perhaps your body isnt ready for pureed foods yet and they will be able to guide you on how to transition to foods. Its a bit of a shock isn't it, feeling that ristriction! However its really early days for you, your stomach is healing so dont overly worry. Keep up with the fluids and Protein drinks and give them a call.

Oh and Congratulations :D

I'm nearing 4 week out and I really struggle with putting any puréed foods in. I absolutely hate the feeling in my stomach for hours after having eaten. To the point that it makes me cry and regret the surgery. I fear I will always feel this uncomfortable sensation and never feel they way I used to again. I'm having a huge emotional crisis over this.

I'm 11 days post op. I had vsg in Mexico, my doctor didn't really give me a good plan, but my coordinator just told me 2 weeks of liquids, 2 weeks purée she said I should be able to eat almost everything except bread, alcohol, at thanksgiving, I've had yogurt egg drop Soup, chiken pea Soup, jellos. What has I believed really helped my stomach is kiefer (probiotic) no flavor with a little honey and I feel like it's just helps I have had 2 very small bowel movement.

My doc said don't push yourself with advancing the diet, you can get enough nutrition with full liquids so if at any point you're struggling just go back to that for a while. Maybe you're just not ready!

Screw the puree. Eat Soups. The sight of puree food made me sick.

This is what I relied on also. I couldn't deal with puréed meat. Soups and Protein shakes got me through this stage.

Shelly has a pot roast recipe. It's great bc it will feed your family dinner, but you can take broth and whizz it up. I put it on top of mashed up potatoes, and it just looked like shepards pie.

I don't eat potatoes now, but that saved me in purees. Great flavor.

I'm almost 5 weeks and I still can't eat a whole egg. I can pretty much eat anything (I'm on full foods now) but I feel full quickly which is normal. If it feels better to stay on liquids than that's ok. Don't move forward if your body isn't ready. And your team wouldn't/shouldn't progress you if you're not comfortable.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
