I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. Things have gone well until this week.. I have become constipated. I've tried purée prunes, dring Water and coffee, milk of magnesia. These things usually worked. I tried to get in touch with my surgeon today but couldn't reach him. I don't want t wait until Monday and have a miserable weekend. Has anyone been told by their doctor they could use Miralax or restoralax or anything else and if so, how did it work. I'm desperate.

Yes, my surgeon suggested Miralax if I had problems during those weeks.

I've been pretty bound up off and on since I started on solids, too. Haven't taken anything, hoping that it'll resolve as my diet expands...but yeah, the surgeon said Miralax or another stool softener if it becomes too much of a problem.

I mix Fiber lax in my water bottle every morning . They make individual packets you can mix in just like kool-aid flavors. I don't notice any aftertaste or grit.

I was given colace stool softener, then added miralax for greater issues and if that still didn't work, was told to use benefiber but to be very slow and use small doses of that and make sure you're drinking lots of liquids, especially Water to keep things moving...

If you take opioid pain medication still from surgery or anything else, that can really gum you up. This is my issue so I'm also taking a medicine for OIC - opioid induced Constipation

Good fortune

Thanks to everyone for their advice. I tried some prune juice and restoralax (same as miralax) yesterday and it worked. I am going to monitor carefully so I don't get like that again if I can help it. I'm adding benefibre to my Water and alternating days of prune juice and restoralax to see if I can get back on track. I feel so much better today

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
