I got a surgery date and was talking to my surgeon who is telling me that I won't start pills for 3 MONTHS!! Which is totally insane! I start my 2 week preop on the 16th and I was wondering if I should start them then. Also what are your opinions on the patch instead? I was looking into get Patches just because I hate taking pills.

Are you asking about Vitamins?

Are you asking about the Vitamin patch or the birth control patch?

For the Vitamin Patch, my bariatric center actually recommends them so that we get what we need when we need it, especially in the beginning, immediately post-op.

For the birth control patch, I don't know much about that, but have been considering switching to it now, pre-op, to make things easier post-op. So if that's the case, I'm also curious!!

I haven't had my surgery yet, but this is a great question! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone says. Where can I find these Vitamin Patches?

OMG I love my Vitamin Patches. I started the multi one during my pre op and then post op i added the Vitamin D B12 and Iron. I'm wearing all 4 as I type this now.

You can get them straight from patch MD or you can get them from the Bariatric Pal Store.< /p>

I used them for 2 months, am thinking of going back to the Patches but I have a graveyard of multivitams (Centrum, Flintstones... Etc. so I figure I might as well finish those for now.) I got mine here at the store they have on Bariatric Pal, and they have an autoship program which saves you money.

I haven't called my doctor asking their opinion of the Patches vs pills but I know they sell the pills so they may be bias lol. Many here have sworn by the patches, which is why I tried them.

I wanted to know which Patches do you use and does it satisfy the requirements of your surgeon?

I am using despicable Vitamins. I like them. They seem to help when I am feeling hungry. Probably because I can suck on one for 5-10 minutes!

I love my Vitamin Patches from the store on this app. I was tolerating chewables preop but post op I hated the delay and just couldn't imagine being full on Vitamins instead of a sf pudding. They are so easy.

My surgeon says no on the Patches. The companies that make them refuse to share data and there haven't been any papers published on their efficacy.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
