Harder than I thought....

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on Tuesday and all went well. I really thought I had myself prepared for this. I have felt much worse than expected. Day 2 was the worst but I'm slowly getting better. I have to keep reminding myself that what I am going through is short term and I do this by going back and reading everyone's success stories. I can see the silver lining.

I started to rebound on Day 3 and it got better steadily every day after that. Glad to hear you're improving. Getting out and around (with ample breaks as needed) was a key to me feeling better.

I had my surgery the 24th of last month and the two days at the hospital were pretty dang hard and uncomfortable.

I'm doing really well considering all things but the scale isn't moving and that's scaring me.

My scale isn't moving either. I'm just silently screaming at it knowing I shouldn't be paying attention to the scale right now.

I feel like I am a fairly even-tempered guy, but I was about to throw our scale off of the terrace by the end of the second week of my "three week stall." But, it finally passed, and I have been in a free-fall ever since. I bet that's going to happen for both of you before too long as well!

Now, if I can just get to my next milestone before the stall rears its ugly head again!! :-)

Hang in there!

I'm with you. Good thing there aren't any neighbors behind our house! One day I'm going to toss that thing in the lake!

Not really, but I know exactly how it feels.

I had my husband hide the scales. My first f/u appt with my surgeon is the 17th. That's when I'll get weighed. It will drive me bonkers but so will my obsession with thinking I need to weight every day.

Haha my husband told me this morning he was going to lock it up and only take it out on Sundays. I don't think he was kidding...

I hated my old scale. It was a super fancy pile of crap. I was soooo tired of it and what it represents. I took it out about a month pre op and shot the thing to pieces with a .357. Mentally that was exactly what I needed at that point. Just before my pre-op diet I was teaching a defensive driving class. I was talking about using backup cameras. I was stressing the importance of using mirrors and The Back-up Camera together as tools. I always stressed that a mechanic doesn't use just a screwdriver, he has an entire box of tools. That is when it hit me right between the eyes that I needed a scale. I don't hate the scale anymore. There are days that I don't like what is happening but I know that the number on the scale is just that. A number. It doesn't define me. Keep up the work you guys, we'll all get there if we do!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
